The Mustang Minute
Week of May 2nd
FROM THE PRINCIPALS' OFFICES
Greetings Mustang families!
It's been another GREAT week at Brookwood! Our BMS students continue to stay busy with celebrating Earth Month, participating in track and field, preparing for the upcoming Willy Wonka play, the Spring Concert and more! Running Club at BES also wrapped up this week with a culminating joint practice with the middle school track team! It was so great to see both BES and BMS Mustangs hanging out together and enjoying some springtime exercise. Students in both schools also wrapped up Forward testing today. Test results will be shared with families next fall at Parent Teacher conferences.
It's hard to believe, but May will soon be upon us! And, with that comes LOTS of fun events and important dates to include the BFO's upcoming Family Fun Fair! We are still looking for volunteers to help with this fun-filled event. We hope you will consider getting involved in some capacity. Signing up is so easy: simply click the button below to find out how you can help...it's sure to be a great time for all!
Lastly - don't forget about summer school! It's not too late to sign up your Mustang for summer enrichment classes in June! Click the link below for a listing of the MANY fun activities available and for information on how to sign up.

Mental Health Mondays in May!
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, each Monday in May our school counselors will provide staff, students, and parents with helpful information or facts about mental health and mental illness. Our goal for “Mental Health Mondays in May” is to stop the mental health stigma and to support those in need.
April Earth Month Activities
Our 4-5 students also enjoyed a special visit from the Genoa City Village Garden Club to learn more about Arbor Day and the planting process. Each student was fortunate enough to also receive a sapling of their own to plant and grow. This is a prime example of why we are so very grateful for our partnership with our community organizations. Thank you for working with us to truly make education come alive for our students!
BES: BE BROOKWOOD
Students observed going above and beyond in being kind, being safe, and/or being responsible are issued “BE BROOKWOOD” tickets throughout their school week. Each week we randomly select students from this group and acknowledge them in our morning announcements and in the weekly MUSTANG MINUTE. Help us congratulate the students that were selected this week:
- Kindergarten: Aurora, Payton, Caiden, Emery, Jarrett, Hazel, Nolan, Mia, Kollin
- 1st Grade: Klaire, Mateo, Reid, Pretoria, Angelica, Brodie, Jax, Stone, Stella
- 2nd Grade: Kensley, Ryder, Everett, Alex, Nora, Caleb
- 3rd Grade: Brody, Koa, Addi, Jack, Eva, Kara
Congratulations to all of our BE BROOKWOOD ticket earners and keep up the great work, Mustangs!

It was another exciting week for our track athletes! This week our track team was able to travel to the elementary school and practice with the BES run club. What a fun way to connect all of our students! We’re all looking forward to a great season! Mark your calendars: the first track meet is May 2nd at 4pm. All track meets will be at Westosha Central High School.
Parents and fans planning to attend, please see the following from Westosha: With the start of heavy construction behind the school on the old football field, all parking will need to be located in either the west end lot or student lot (areas in green boxes). Handicap parking (blue box) will still be located in the regular location. There will not be any parking available behind tech ed, in the grass, or along the road. Any vehicle parked on the street will be ticketed for obstructing a fire lane.
If you have any questions, please contact Coach Guth or Coach Jagow.
Go Mustangs!

From the Classroom...
What's Happening in Mr. Granahan's Advanced Robotics Class?
Students in Mr. Granahan's Advanced Robotics Class are participating in a "Robot Soccer Challenge." This challenge was selected by the class from a variety of challenge options. Student partners were placed into one of two teams. Their objective is to design and build a robot that can work with the other robots in their team to win a game of soccer. For this challenge the robots are controlled by iPads. Students love to refer to this challenge as Robot Rocket League. Some robots are designed to specifically act as the goalie, while others are designed to score points. The robots pictured are nearly finished with the challenge taking place next week. How awesome is this???
What's Happening in Mrs. Soto's Speech and language class?
Students receiving speech and language therapy at the elementary school with Mrs.Soto are engaging in play-based therapy focusing on “Everything Spring.” This week students pretended to grow flowers in a sensory bin. While doing so, they worked on receptive language skills such as understanding sentence structures, following directions, expressive language skills, and answering and asking questions. They also learned about collaborating with others and how to make and execute a plan. What a cool sensory experience!
