Dr. Downs September 2021 Update

Dear Canby Families,

It has been a pleasure having your students back in school for nearly four weeks now! We want to thank our amazing staff, students, and families for making this a great start to the school year.

I’ve witnessed the staff at Canby schools welcoming students with great care. And you, our families, have offered your support and helped get your students off on the right foot. I am impressed and grateful. When we work together, we create a school atmosphere that is welcoming, safe, and conducive to successful learning.

We are committed to keeping students in the school buildings this year. As COVID-19 continues to be present in our community and state, it’s important that we follow the district’s health and safety protocols, outlined in our COVID-19 In-Person Handbook.

You can continue to help us by keeping your children home when they’re sick and screening them for possible COVID-19 symptoms, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, new loss of taste and others. Please remind your students to maintain physical distance while at school, practice good hand washing, and wear face coverings over their mouth and nose. We will continue to have outdoor eating for K-6 as our primary eating space, but we want our families to know that students may choose to eat outside or inside. We ask that you discuss this option with your child so they are prepared. We have added outdoor tents at each elementary school to ensure covered areas for eating, outdoor learning, or mask breaks. As outdoor temperatures drop, we are also looking at adding lighting and heat.

Finally, I’d like to encourage all of our families to participate in the upcoming virtual parent-teacher conferences. My desire is for 100% of families to engage in these conferences. Our staff of dedicated professionals rely on your partnership. For our high school students, conferences will take place on the evening of October 13; and for our K-8 students, they’ll take place on October 13th and 14th. We would like to remind our community that Ninety-One, Carus, Trost, Eccles and Canby High School parking lots all offer wifi access if you need connectivity for conferences. Watch for more detailed information from your school.

Thank you for your continued warm welcome and I wish you all a wonderful rest of your week!

With appreciation,

Dr. Aaron Downs
