Hello! We met with each grade level to share some information. I wanted to communicate the highlights of what we presented to students so you are aware and are able to support your student(s) with the expectations. Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you!
- We will be starting a new system called SmartPass. It is an electronic pass system students can use to request a pass to leave the room. Teachers can also use the system to request a student. Teachers are able to see who has an active pass and who does not, which will better help us determine who has permission to be in the hallway at all times. If you want to learn more about the system, you can find several videos on YouTube if you search SmartPass. We will start using SmartPass tomorrow (8/30/23).
- Homecoming: We reviewed the dates and activities for Homecoming week (we will send more detailed information about the week's events in another communication soon). We talked to students about the expectations for being allowed to attend the Homecoming game and dance. Students cannot have any suspensions or major referrals to attend. Also, the Friday before the dance, any student with an Unverified or Unexcused absence will not be able to attend the dance. This is the current policy for all extracurricular activities.
- Advisory: We communicated that advisory is a required class and attendance is mandatory unless a student is taking a DMACC class that interferes with their ability to make it to school during this time. Attendance is taken by the students' assigned advisory teacher. If they are requested by another teacher to do work for their class, they will need to check in with their rostered advisory teacher and show their SmartPass that was created by the teacher requesting them. The current phone policy applies during advisory.
We met with all of the students in the building today to go over this information. However, several junior and senior students may have missed the presentation due to being at DMACC. If you have a student who missed the presentation, please encourage them to check their email and review the slides I used and then reach out with any questions they may have. I am sending those slides to students this evening.
