Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,

Happy Spring Break! Please stay safe and enjoy the week. Remember, all students will remain in their current classes April 19-23, 2021. Term 4 transitions will begin April 26, 2021.

Term 4 Key Dates

• April 19-23, 2021: All students will remain with their current teachers during the 1st week of Term 4, to prepare for the transition. Families will receive notification of any homeroom shifts, this week.
• April 26, 2021: Students who have accepted an In-Person or CARE Classroom seat for Term 4, will begin reporting to the physical Hyde-Addison school building, based on guidance disseminated on April 21, 2021.

Please note DC Health discourages non-essential travel outside of the District, Maryland, or Virginia (DMV). If you are considering a trip beyond the DMV, please take a moment to review this one-pager from DC Health. It includes updated quarantine information for adults who completed their COVID-19 vaccinations, those who recently tested positive for COVID-19, and testing requirements after traveling.

Spring break is a great time to celebrate National Poetry month by engaging in any number of the fun activities on the Poetry Choice Board, attached below.

Many thanks to the PTA for fundraising to ensure we are able to expand in-person learning opportunities in Term 4 with individualized school supplies for students. If you are able, please donate here!

We are excited to host outdoors and socially distant portrait day for Hyde-Addison students on Wednesday, April 28! In-Person students will have their photo taken in the morning and virtual learners can schedule appointments for photos in the afternoon by clicking here.

Hyde-Addison will host a Summer Acceleration Academy, which will be an in-person learning experience based on targeted academic needs. If your child is eligible to participate, the school will reach out directly with an invitation to enroll. Additionally, our PreK students will have the opportunity to participate in school-based playdates in August.

The below DCPS offerings are for any eligible family that wishes to enroll:

K-2 Springboard Collaborative (virtual)- Register for this program

This offering will provide students who could use an extra boost of literacy-focused instruction where students will work in small groups with a teacher to develop greater reading comprehension and fluency. Students participating in the Springboard program learn to develop a deeper love of reading while earning incentives along the way!

Grades 3-5: Elementary Enrichment Programming (virtual) - Register for this program

This collection of individual courses focuses on high-interest, immersive topics such as theater, water-based projects, and unique events in history. All incoming students in these grades are eligible for this program and can register online beginning April 5. The virtual program will take place from July 6 to August 6.

Interdisciplinary course options for 3 through 5th grade students include:

• Water World: Students will explore various water habitats, find hidden sources of water, and engage with experiments that show the power of pollution.
• All the World's a Stage: Students will learn the components of plays, practice theatre skills, and write and perform their own play.
• Did that Really Happen!?: Students will look at strange events in history, from Amelia Earhart, to Pompeii, shark attacks, and more!

K-5 Elementary English Learner Summer Academic Program (ELSAP)

We are proud to once again offer unique summer programming specifically targeted for newcomers as well as those English Learners who are still developing basic proficiency in English in a joyful and enriching instructional format. There will be limited capacity for in-person programming as well as an option for virtual learning. Students who qualify will be invited to participate. (English Learners can also participate in their school-based program.)

Please see this sign-up form for the April 14th "Outdoor Storytime!" event that the DC State Board of Education is hosting. In Ward 2, local elected representatives will be reading books to participating children at Rose Park and Stead Park. This event was designed in partnership with the DC Public Library for kids between the ages of 4 and 9.

The Foxhall and MacArthur School Planning Community Working Group convened for its fifth session on Thursday, March 25, 2021. This session opened with a discussion on DCPS goals to preserve access and diversity throughout the decision-making progress. The meeting continued with a review of updated scenarios based on feedback received from the previous session. Finally, the session concluded with a review and discussions of goals and approach to broader April community engagement. Meeting materials are available —here and group membership list is here.
