From the Hornet Admin Team
October 15th - October 21st
Thank You!
9th - Thank you for your attention and cooperation during your sessions. I've heard nothing but great things from our session presenters. We got a little restless at the end of the day but overall we had a successful day.
10th and 11th - Thank you for your focus during the practice ACT, ASVAB and PSAT. These tests are extremely long and half of the battle is learning to sit and focus for that length of time. Practicing is the only way to master and work through this pressure. You may not care about these tests but the reason we give them is to provide you with options. You may not know what your future holds so we want you to have options so when the time comes, you have nothing but open doors.
12th - This was a perfect day for working with our elementary feeder schools, going on college visits, job shadowing or helping with the conference. If you worked with our feeder schools or helped with the conference, please get your supervisor to fill out your community service form so that you can get the hours.
Got Ideas?
Suggestions & Solutions with Ms. Smith
I will be at lunch on the 2nd floor of the commons during all lunches to meet with you to hear your ideas, thoughts, suggestions and solutions for what you'd like to see at Northtown. This is your opportunity to share your feedback or stop by and say hello. I'll be taking notes of the things you have to say to figure out what we're doing great and how we can better meet your needs. I'll be there the following dates:
- Tuesday, Oct. 16 - all lunches
- Friday, Oct. 19 - all lunches
- Wednesday, Oct. 24 - all lunches
- Thursday, Oct. 25 - all lunches
- Friday, Oct. 26 - all lunches
If you see me sitting there looking lonely, please sit with me and tell me a random story or something. For your friends that don't read their e-mails, please tell them what's going on and to come share their feedback.
Can't wait to hear how things are going.
Ms. Smith
Announcements
Tutoring
Angel Kalu (Senior) – Algebra, Chemistry and Personal Finance
James Moloney (Junior) – Biology, Chemistry and History
Transportation is provided: If Northtown is your assigned school, go to the S. Campus before noon on Monday to get a bus pass to ride the late bus. If you are here for IB or any other district placement, you may not qualify for late transportation. If you have any questions, see my administrative assistant, Ms. Jenny Moore in the South Campus Building. If you need help, this is the time to get it.
Mentoring
Junior or Seniors: If you are an upperclassman, we are offering you the opportunity to get your community service hours by mentoring another student at school. At this point, we are going to start with seniors being mentors and then we will train juniors to mentor. I'm trying to find out how many are interested in mentoring so if this sounds like something you'd like to do, sign up. We will have an informational meeting during advisory Friday, Oct. 26th and I'll send you a calendar request and a location for the meeting.
Freshmen or Sophomores: Sometimes it helps to have an older student to connect with that has been through what you're going through right now. They can provide advice on how to talk to a certain teacher, tips on working through friendships and dealing with some of the issues that high school students face. Also, the accountability of knowing someone (other than adults) care about your grades, attendance and discipline may help you stay on track. Upperclassmen understand because some of them have made the same mistakes but we want you to make the most out of your time in high school.

Trunk or Treat
We wanted to pass along the details to all staff on FCCLA’s upcoming Trunk or Treat. This event will take place on Monday, October 22 from 6-7:30. Arrive by 5:30 to set up your trunk in the Norclay parking lot (if weather is not permitting, we will be in Norclay gym). The entry is $10 per trunk, and your group will need to bring candy to hand out to the many feeder elementary students that will be attending. There will be a prize for the top trunk. We need all entries submitted no later than Friday, October 19th. Any questions, please see Mrs. Joiner or Ms. Mondello. Thank you so much for supporting this great event with our feeder schools and we would love to have every group, team, organization, etc represented!!
Thanks!

Necktie Donation Drive for NTA (Northtown Theatre Association)
Do you have any old neckties, you do not wear anymore? Over the next couple weeks, North Kansas City High School Theatre Department is gathering used neckties for our Fall musical Pippin. We need 15-30 per cast member. We would like as many bright colors, fun patterns and stripes as possible. The more colorful and interesting the better.
Please drop off your ties at North Kansas City High School c/o Randy Jackson
Or Antioch Middle School c/o Helena Cosentino. Feel free to emailRandy.Jackson@nkcschools.org or Helena.cosentino@nkcschools.org if you have any questions.
Thank you,

Northtown Food Drive
Today is the beginning of October, and that means we will be starting our annual food drive! For the entire month we will be participating in a competition against the three other high schools and their feeder patterns for who can raise the most food items. The winner will receive a trophy that will travel between the winning schools for many years to come. At the conclusion of the competition at the end of the month, we are planning to send out a press release congratulating the winner and announcing our totals. We are including our feeder schools to join us in this competition that we expect to win! Please begin talking to your students and getting them excited to help out our community in a competitive way. We are looking forward to the creative ideas that teachers come up with. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you and happy donating!
Acceptable Donation Examples:
Can foods
Boxed dinners
Please Avoid:
Glass items
Damaged goods
Expirable food items
