Shout-Outs
- Shout-out to our Freshmen of the Week from this week! Kim Madison comes to us from Chapman Middle. At Lee, she is on the swim team and in the baseball manager. In her spare time, Kim enjoys sleeping and spending time with her siblings. When she graduates high school she would like to go to Duke to major in nursing and become a labor and delivery nurse. Her favorite teacher at Lee is Coach B because she is a welcoming person, is funny, and keeps it real with people. Zach Bumbalough comes to us from AAA Middle. Here at Lee he is in the Media Arts magnet. In his spare time he likes to workout and play basketball. When he graduates from high school he wants to go to college at UNA and major in film. His favorite teacher at Lee is Mr. Lee because he is real chill and laid back and teaches us a lot. Congratulation to both of them for representing our FamiLEE values so well!
- Shout-out to our adapted PE team for their victory over Columbia on Thursday!
- Shout out to Ms. Daniel, Mr. Jordan, and all the student and alumni performers who made this week's Soul Cafe in the cafeteria a success!!!

From the Desk of the Magnet Directors
Theatre Magnet Director- Mr. Kisor
This past weekend we had multiple community opportunities to showcase our Theatre Performance Magnet students. First we had an amazing time showcasing our upcoming performance of Little Mermaid at the 2024 Curriculum fair where we had students perform two different numbers. Our Ursula performed “Poor Unfortunate Souls” and we re-composed a version of “Part of Your World” that was performed by two of our Ariel’s! It was a great opportunity to get out in the community and showcase the talent of our students. On top of that performance, we had an opportunity to take a morning workshop with the cast of the touring company of “To Kill a Mockingbird” followed by exclusive tickets to see the show. It was a very successful weekend with some wonderful outcomes and learning opportunities. This week our Theatre Management class has been delving into the proper structure of what it means to have a representational program or company. Why it is important that companies have mission statements, values and goals to continually work on building their company to new levels . Students have been working on exercises to figure out our WHY, what makes Lee Theatre Magnet unique? What are our strengths and how do we grow the program and what do we want it to look like in 3 years. It has been a wonderful discussion in figuring out these students' perceptions and vision for what this program can become.
Magnet Photos will happen February 27th @ 9:15am. Photos will be taken for:

Director of Technical Theatre- Ms. Campolongo
Hello!! This week, the focus in our class has been to finish final preparations for Antigone Now that opens this Thursday. Students will now be shifting their focus towards Little Mermaid which opens at the beginning of April. We will be having multiple parent volunteer opportunities as well. Everyone is welcome. All experience levels accepted.
There are a few assignments due soon. They are all considered test grades and they are the following:
Coral Project: Due March 1st
Assignment can be found on Schoology
First 10 Hours Milestone: Due March 8th
Hours must be logged into the logbook in class
It is recommended that students attempt to do more than 10 hours so they are not scrambling to try to reach their 60 hours by the end of the semester
Please remember that 60 hours of extra curricular work is required for all Tech magnet students. Please see our Schoology page for more information about the hours’ requirement.
3rd 9 weeks’ Work Call attendance: Due March 8th
All students are required to attend either 2 full after school work calls or 1 full weekend work call before spring break for a total of 6 hours.
Students can break up the weekend calls over 2 work calls.
We encourage students to attend more to keep up with the demands of the production and reach their hours’ requirements.
There is a Sign Up Genius link on Schoology. Students must sign up prior to arriving at the call. Attendance will be taken.

Dance Magnet Director- Mrs. Hunkapillar
- This week in class, DME has been working on new pieces for the spring concert. Once we finish all class pieces, the seniors in the Major Company will begin their choreography projects. These dancers will be posting their cast lists at the end of the week. Senior rehearsals will begin in the next week or two.
- Minor company will be finishing up their last class piece in the next week or two. Then we will begin the cleaning process. Auditions for Major/Elite Company will be March 6 during 2nd block class time.
- Concert Adjudication (test grade) will be Apr 10, 2024-this is when each company performs their class pieces in front of a magnet panel and they receive constructive feedback on their performance.
- Our company pictures for the yearbook will be on February 27-Major company will be at 9:00 and Minor company will be at 10:30. All dancers will wear company black-I have some leotards that dancers may borrow. They will all need to wear their own black leggings for the pictures.
- Also next week will be the Black History program and our Major company will be performing “Le Freak” (our opening number from the fall concert). Lots of things are happening right before spring break-very important for all dancers to be in class on time and ready to work. Let’s have a great week!!
Visual Arts Magnet Directors- Mrs. Johnson and Ms. Radowski
- Painting- Painting is working on a personal still life. They are required to use one piece of cloth, one reflective item and a minimum of 3 personal pieces in the artwork. Maximum size is 9x12, acrylic on canvas.
- Our mermaid paintings & drawings have been completed and several will be on display at The Little Mermaid production put on by our theater department in April. Others will be on display in the Fine Arts hallway at the same time. We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with theater.
- These two pieces are from Painting II (Tamara Haynes) and Drawing III (Jae Maksym)
- Acrylic on canvas 16x20 and Watercolor, Gouache and Pen on Watercolor paper.
- Drawing - Drawing students are working on their “Beyond the Border” assignment. This has the students creating a 4x6 block that has a colorful animal, insect or mythical creature, that extends past (breaks the barrier) the 4x6 block on at least 3 sides. Those three spots stay in color, everything else outside the block is in black and white only.
- AP studio art: Welcome back Mrs. Johnson!!
Film and Video Director- Mr. Lee
- All Magnet students are required to complete hours outside of the school day. Those sign ups are available on Sign Up Genius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F49AEA92BA2F4C25-48095019-2024
