Composer Quincy Hilliard to Join Band Program as Guest Artist/Conductor For Our Spring Concert
Dr. Quincy Hilliard has been coming to Lower Moreland to either guest conduct or guest rehearse our bands for the past 17 years. This year, the Lower Moreland High School Wind Ensemble will be preparing and performing his brand new piece, "As The World Watched".
As The World Watched was commissioned by the Tenth District Band Directors of the Georgia Music Educators Association. This piece is a
programmatic work based upon the composer’s view of the insane events that have happened around the world, both past and present. The abuse that mankind
has perpetrated upon each other, man’s inhumanity to man and the taking of human life, for no reason at all, is the major focus of this work. On a secondary
level, the work also represents one’s reaction to an event that is very shocking and painful.
The work is divided into three sections – Shock, Anger, and Depression. These are the three emotions that the composer experienced each time that he witnessed
one of these catastrophic and horrifying events.
