January 27-February 3
Weekly Recap!
Greetings Charles Town Panther Community,
We had another busy, yet great week at Charles Town. Teachers and students are cruising through their curriculum and instruction. Math and ELA classes have been working hard on completing the interim assessment, known as the CIA. We are excited to get into the data results to help teachers plan and prioritize their end of the year instructional paths.
The surprise weather day on Wednesday cancelled the Jefferson County History Bowl at CTMS. We are beyond excited to announce that this event will be rescheduled on Wednesday, Febrary 1. Best of luck CTMS History Bowl Team!
The snow day also cancelled the 8th grade band concert on Wednesday night. We wanted to thank Mr. Walter at Wright Denny Intermediate School and Dr. Gibson-Learn for helping Mrs. Allen and the 8th grade band reschedule their concert to allow for recording their submission for the 8th Grade Honor Band.
Mrs. Dove and 6 members of the CTMS Choir traveld to Morgantown this week to participate in the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) All State Junior High/Middle School Chorus. We are excited to hear everything that they learned during this trip.
On Friday, January 27, and Saturday, January 28 Mrs. Allen and 6 band members represented CTMS at the Region 9 Honor Band Festival. We are excited to hear the wonderful music that these talented artists create for the festival.
This week we hosted our first ever In-School Wrestling Dual. Students were able to watch our Charles Town Panthers take on the visiting Mustangs from Wildwood. The Panthers had a dominant victory over the Mustangs. The wrestling team is in Huntington, WV this weekend competing in the WSAZ Tournament - also known as the Middle School State Tournament. Many of our wrestlers are entering this tournament in ranked positions! Check out those rankings below! Best of luck to our wrestling Panthers!
Our girls basketball team had their final regular season home games this week. On Monday night, our 8th grade girls were recognized as they are beginning to look forward to high school. We are excited for what the future holds for these 6 ladies.
Our boys basketball team will have their final home games this coming week, and will recognize the 8th grade boys during their final home stand.
Enjoy the remainder of your weekend and let's be prepared for a great week of teaching and learning. Thanks for all that you do! #LetsGoPanthers #PantherPride

Governor's STEM Institute (GSI) -- Attention 7th Graders -- See Mrs. Mills or Mr. Wilson for more information -- Deadline 2/17/2023
Become a Scientist, a Mathematician, or both at GSI
For decades, students were encouraged to learn about science, and they did. They did not, however, experience the excitement of discovery--of proving a theory. Carl Sagan's declaration that we can "do" science fired the movement to make young students actual scientists. Books are still important; they contain necessary, fundamental information, background knowledge. With that knowledge, students can soar into the unknown. Recognizing that the scientific and mathematic discoveries that made a difference in the world were developed over long periods of time by motivated, dedicated, thorough, and creative minds, the State of West Virginia offers the Governor's STEM Institute, inviting students to delve into projects that allow them the time and opportunity to think and work like scientists and engineers, using high level mathematics and thinking skills while employing the latest technology.
The theme of GSI for current 7th graders is The Math and Science at Amusement Parks
The goal is to open students’ eyes to what lies behind the concept, design, the magic of light shows, the timing, and how the rides work. Get ready–there are a lot of connections, and student are going to have a great time discovering them! There are two sessions of 48 each for seventh-graders, so students will attend either July 2-10 or July 12-20.
Up to 60 current eighth graders will learn about the magic of the universe as they study the mysteries of outer space utilizing data from the Green Bank Observatory in Pocahontas County. Accessing the information under the guidance of nationally recognized scientists and instructors, students will learn about the constellations, outer space and, perhaps just as importantly, about their inner selves. In 2023, the dates for this out-of-the-world experience are July 2-15.

Do your best on your application, turn it in, and hope that you will be one of the 156 students chosen in 2023. It's like the lottery. You can't win if you don't play.
