- Support integration of school gardens into curriculum
- Support other USD116 Schools in developing garden safety manuals and garden committees
10.4 USD116 Restraint Time Out (RTO) Reduction Plan
There is a new ISBE Requirement that all school districts have an oversight team to develop district-specific plans that include procedures to reduce and eventually eliminate the use of physical restraint, time out, and isolated time out. The initial plan must be submitted to ISBE by July 1, 2022
It is important to note USD has not been identified as doing anything wrong. This is part of a broader state effort to reduce RTO as an intervention.
State Reduction Goal and USD116
- A 25 percent reduction in the use of physical restraint, time out, and isolated time out over a 12-month period for students experiencing five-plus instances in a 30-day period.
USD does not have any students who meet this criteria (or are near meeting
this criteria)
Given that USD116 does not currently have any current or recent instances of students experiencing five or more instances in a 30-day period, we will determine progress towards the reduction and eventual elimination of the use of restraint, time out, and isolated time out by answering the following questions:
- Did the overall number of incidents requiring the use of RTO decrease in 2022-23 compared to 2021-22?
- Did the overall number of students requiring the use of RTO decrease in 2022-23 compared to 2021-22?
- We will be reviewing full-year data sets for 2021-22 (and possibly earlier years) for both Gerber School and other district buildings to make any adjustments in differentiating goal setting needed early in the 2022-23 school year.
10.5 2022-23 Board of Education Goals
The BOE discussed high-level goals it wants to achieve next year (2022-23):
- Negotiate a new UEA contract

- Equity Audit: would like an update before the final audit is presented
