Founders Memorial School News: September 15, 2023
From the Principal
Dear FMS Community,
It has been a wonderful first few weeks of school. We have been working hard to establish new routines and discuss schoolwide and classroom expectations. We have been building relationships and our community!
On Friday, 9/8, we had our first schoolwide morning meeting of the year. We will gather as a school once a month to connect and share important schoolwide information. This month, we talked about our student job program, and shared that all classes will have an opportunity to lead either a greeting or activity at a future assembly, or share classroom learning and projects with our school!
I know that new school start and stop times across the district have been an adjustment for all of our families. Please be sure to stick with the morning timeline below.
7:15: Buses begin to arrive, parent dropoff begins
7:30: Students enter the school, get breakfast, walk to class
7:40: FMS School Day Begins
7:41: Students who enter the building at this time or after will receive a pass and walk to class
2:40: FMS School Day Ends (1:40 on Wednesdays)
Please contact our front office with any questions you may have!
I am looking forward to collaborating with you all this year. It’s been so much fun getting to know our new 3rd graders and seeing our 4th and 5th graders again.
Sincerely,
Sara Jablonski

Library News
It's been a wonderful month of welcoming students back to the FMS Library. Students have the opportunity to exchange books each week.
**Check the schedule below to find out when your student has Library Class.
All classes have been very busy this month reviewing and practicing how to locate books in the FMS library this month! After books are checked out, students spend the last few minutes of Library Class reading in our cozy chairs.
Here are the steps we have been working on and mastering:
Locating a book in the library
- Search for a book in the library catalog.
- Write down the call number.
- Find the signs for each section of books.
- Use the call number labels on the spine to find the book.
Happy Reading!
-Mrs. Biggs & Ms. Pike
Community News
PTO
We are excited to continue to serve EES, FMS, and EMS this year. Every person connected with these school communities is part of the PTO- there is no membership requirement.
We are always looking for volunteers- email us if you’re interested- pto@ewsd.org
This year, we have a calendar of events. While we don’t have final dates for every event, we hope this will help you mark your calendar now!
The PTO Board meets once a month, and while anyone is welcome to join, we know life gets busy so we are focusing on 3 general meetings throughout the year. Joining a meeting is your chance to see what the PTO is up to behind the scenes, find out more about volunteering opportunities, and share your voice with us! We can’t have a PTO without your help.
Our first meeting is coming up quickly on September 14th at 6:30 pm in the FMS library. Enter through the side doors near the parking lot/playground, turn right after both sets of doors and the library is just to your left.
At the direction of the district, the PTO has moved away from a fundraising forward model. We are looking more for donations of time and goods throughout the year to help bring families into the school, celebrate our hard working school staff, and foster a strong relationship between school and family. We do still need some monetary funds to keep us going; if you are interested in donating or being a business sponsor, please email us. We are a registered 501(c)(3) non profit organization.
Keep up to date with us by checking our website, following us on social media Facebook
(Essex Town PTO), Instagram (@essextownpto), and by checking for PTO information in your school’s e-newsletter!

NEW THIS YEAR!
Passport Week (September 30 to October 7)
Festival goers will appreciate a week-long passport event as they explore the many parks, businesses, and historical spots in Essex. Businesses, stores, and restaurants will hold up pop-events, demonstrations, provide samples, and advertise specials during the week. Nonprofit organizations may hold fundraisers and special engagements to promote their work in Essex and become an official "passport stop".
Community Day (October 7)
The week will be topped off with a day of community-focused events held at Foster Road Park. For rain, events will be held indoors at the Essex Middle School. There will be live musical performances, Alyx the Magician, horse-drawn hayrides, a Kids Carnival with bounce houses and miniature golf, a farmer's market including food trucks and craft booths, baking contests, photo and baking contests, and drawings for the Giveaway Exploraganza!
