Learning Options Selection Instructions for Tyler Parent Portal
CÓMO COMPLETAR EL FORMULARIO DE SELECCIÓN DE OPCIONES DE APRENDIZAJE 2021 EN TYLER SIS
Principal's Message
Pirate parents,
I want to keep Plank parents informed of our progress with our return plans. The SD 308 Board of Education met Tuesday night to hear the plan for Remote Learning for All in the event that our schools need to return to remote learning due to COVID-19. At Plank, we have been working hard to make sure that our building is physically ready to receive students in August, as well has how we can potentially transition from in-person learning to remote learning, if needed. For full reopening plans and information, please follow the link to access the SD 308 reopening plan documents. You can also click on the button below this Principal's Message in order to access the PDF of the plan.
There is specific guidance that we must follow from the Illinois Department of Public Health in order to safely repoen schools and protect our students and staff. To see the guidelines that the IDPH has shared with schools, and the plans that SD 308 has put in place to best adhere to these plans, follow this link. https://www.sd308.org/Page/24653. Here you can read the documents that explain mask requirements, physical distancing requirements, and access medical forms related to in person masks. These documents are also available in Spanish, found here. https://www.sd308.org/Page/24682.
If you have questions, please reach out to the Plank Main office at 630-551-9400. Please know that we are still working on the specifics for our return plans, and these plans are subject to change. The most up to date information can be found at the SD 308 website.
It is crucial in our planning to have accurate numbers of students returning to in-person learning and students electing remote learning. Please check your Tyler Parent Portal to access the survey to select your choice for your child's return to school. You can find directions to complete this survey here.
If you haven't registered your child for school, and they are a Plank student, please follow this link to register them for the 2020-2021 school year!

If you have specific needs for your family, or you have questions, there is a link to a form survey that you can complete to share with me further down in the newsletter. We want to keep open lines of communication with our families so that we can continue to provide support and answer questions. I know they are out there!
Despite the uncertainty to the start of our school year, I want to welcome all of our new families to Plank. We shared out our 6th grade step up website through our counselors. Follow this link to our Counselor's webpage, which has a wealth of information and our presentation for incoming Pirates. Our purpose is to get our incoming Pirates excited for the transition into Plank, as well as have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with some of the faces and voices that they will see when they arrive in the Fall. There is also Plank spiritwear information below that will help to get new families involved and in the Pirate Spirit! This includes the option to purchase a cloth Plank Spirit Mask in the grade level color!
The staff at Plank Junior High is committed to serving the students and parents of the surrounding community. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, and we can work together to find solutions. I can be reached at 630-551-9400 and thaymond@sd308.org. We look forward to partnering with you and your student throughout the year.
Always in partnership,
Tyler Haymond

Frequently Asked Questions
What is happening with schedules?
- It takes about 3-4 months to create a master schedule that works for the individual needs of all students when we put schedules together each spring. Once we have all the information needed to create a 6 period schedule, we will have about 2 weeks to make the schedule work.
- Schedules can be created once we know how many students select in-person learning or remote learning.
- Core classes (ELA, Math, History, Science) will take priority for all students. This may impact some student choice originally selected for the 9 period in-person day.
- Staff will collaborate with families when conflicts arise.
- All schedules will be shared when they are finalized
What do we do with devices?
- The technology department is working on plans for the return of Chromebooks, the pick up of Chromebooks, and device related inquiries can be directed to Brent Kiger and Kyle Olesen through District Technology 630-636-3950.
Will Plank follow Will or Kendall County health requirements?
- The district office for SD308 is in Kendall County. We will follow Kendall County's lead throughout this process as will the rest of SD308.
- Students attending in person at Plank will be required to wear a cloth face covering and adhere to the social distancing guidelines provided by the IDPH.
Are the hours set or flexible for those choosing Edgenuity?
- The hours are flexible for those choosing Edgenuity from the start. Students will need to follow the pacing set for them and will be monitored/supported by 308 teachers.
Will students who attend live be separated by Grade Levels?
- 6th grade classes are on the first floor, while 7th/8th grade classrooms are mostly on the second floor. There are exceptions for a few classes.
- We will follow social distancing guidelines as closely as possible while still making it possible for in person learning.
Get Involved: Clubs and Activities - ON HOLD AS OF 7/9/20
We want all of our students to get involved with something extra-curricular during their time at Plank. Specific information about clubs and opportunities are shared through morning announcements and weekly communication home through the Pirate's Cove Newsletter during the regular school year. Due to our current situation, Clubs and activities information is on hold. More information will be shared with families as it comes available in communication from Plank and through the School District.

Health Paperwork
******A HOLD ON SCHEDULE AND FIRST DAY EXCLUSION******
6th Grade Physical
The state of IL requires all incoming 6th graders to have a complete health physical. Failure to provide a school physical will result in first day exclusion. Physicals WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED without a parent completing the health history for their student - page 2 of the physical, and providing a signature. No scheduled appointment exceptions.
Immunization Record
Immunizations are required prior to the start of the school year. Students who do not receive proper immunizations will be excluded from attending school. Please check with your child’s physician regarding updated Hepatitis B, MMR, Meningococcal, Varicella and Tdap immunizations.
For 6th grade students, the Tdap and Meningitis (Meningococcal) immunizations are required on or after the 11th birthday, and in some cases that is after the start of school. These students still must have a physical on file prior to the first day of school. They will have 30 days after their 11th birthday to complete these immunizations and turn documentation in to school.
Dental Exam
In Jr High - Dental exams are only required for 6th grade. This should be dated between November 15, 2019 to May 15, 2021. State Physical and Dental exam forms will be provided to you by your Physician or Dentist, but forms can be found under the Health Services Tab on the district website: www.sd308.org.
An Annual Health History will need to be completed by a parent prior to the start of school.
Who do I call in case of a child absence?
A parent or a legal guardian must call 630-551-9400 before 10:00 a.m. A note is not acceptable. Please report the following information:
- Student’s Name and ID Number
- Your Name & Contact Phone Number
- Reason for Absence & Symptoms
*If a call is not received or a reason is not given, the absence will be considered “unexcused”.
If your child needs ANY medication to be given either on a regular basis or just as needed, please have your doctor complete a Medication Authorization Form for each medication. The medication forms and Health plans for: Asthma, Food Allergies, Seizures, and Diabetes are also available under the Health Services Tab. These forms are required to be completed and submitted YEARLY.
