Sierra School Scoop
April 17 - April 21, 2023
Principal's Message...
Hello Sierra Families,
It's hard to believe that we only have 33 days left of this school year! This time of year always brings much excitement and activity around campus. Please make sure to read through this newsletter carefully for all of our upcoming events. As always, reach out to your child's teacher with any specific questions.
As a reminder-You may NOT drop off students in the morning in the front of the school (unless they attend Extended Day for before school care). That area is reserved for our school busses. If you are dropping off a student, who does not attend Extended Day before school, you MUST use the parking lot at the District Office. The area in front of the school is marked as a No Stopping/Parking Zone, and we will have a police officer issuing tickets for people who do not follow this expectation. Thank you for your cooperation with this, as we understand parking and drop-offs can be a challenge at our school.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Miss Alissa’s Counseling Corner
Yoda once said, “The greatest teacher, failure is. Your path you must decide.”
How can we teach our children and ourselves to be more resilient and push through when things don’t go our way or we fail at something and want to give up?
Here are a few Skills to Master Resilience:
Identify your personal strengths and resources
Find ways to stay connected with your support systems
Talk about what you are going through
Give your emotions a name!
Find ways to activate positive emotions. Self Care is EVERYTHING!
Cultivate an attitude of gratitude, what are you thankful for today?
Cultivate a belief in your ability to cope. Say “I can do this!” 10 times out loud until you believe it!
Cultivate an attitude of survivorship. Show the world that you can get through anything if you just keep pushing through!
Seek meaning in your life. Contemplate how your beliefs apply to your current circumstances. What is your WHY? How can you come out stronger on the other side?
When all else fails, find ways to be helpful to others, this can provide a sense of mastery, feeling important and getting out of your own head.
Here for you, I am!
Love, Miss Alissa.

Hammer Headlines
Spring is here. It was wonderful to be outside this week on the grass fields. This month’s skill will be baseball
Transitional kindergarten to second grade students will be doing stations, baseball skills, and running activities. Students will be doing a variety of stretching and exercises during their station work. We then will use the scoops to complete under and overhand throws using a baseball size wiffle ball. Next is hitting a softball size baseball off of the tee and learning how to run the bases. Finally we will be animals, different types of motion, and tag games.
Third to fifth grade students will be doing stations, baseball skills, and running activities. Students will warm up by completing a variety of stretches and exercises. Next they will be using the scoops to toss and catch the ball from varying distances. Next they will be hitting softball sized wiffle balls pitched by me. Each player on each team will get one at bat. Finally we will be playing steel the bacon, team tag, and freeze tag.
With the warmer weather it is important that students have water bottles and closed toed shoes for PE.
