Winter Book Fair!
Thank you to the support of our teachers, students, families, and parent volunteers during our winter book fair. Thanks to all of you, $1213.54 was raised to purchase new books for our library.
Winter Books
The students have been reading a variety of winter-themed books in the library!
Morning Library Time
Morning time in the library continues to be a huge success. The doors to the library open at 7:20 a.m. Students, at this time, visit the library to read and to check out new books.
Partner Reading
First graders have been reinforcing their partner reading skills in the library.
Fourth Grade Research Collaboration
Collaborating with Miss Woods and her fourth grade classes during their study of natural disasters was such a productive time! Students learned the importance of evaluating sources of information, then practiced accessing quality sources using Alabama Virtual Library.
Encyclopedia Collaboration
It was an honor to collaborate with Ms. Wolfe during a lesson pertaining to using print and digital encyclopedias to research various topics. (All students have access to digital encyclopedia articles by going to Alabama Virtual Library (Student Resources - Elementary), then clicking on the link for Britannica School Elementary.) Click here for the lesson plan, learning targets, and handouts.
Third Grade Research
Third graders used the digital resources available on Alabama Virtual Library to research a variety of topics of interest to them. Students remembered to stop and jot notes when they found important information.
Fifth Grade Research Collaboration
It has been such a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with Mrs. Redding during her study of earth's systems' interactions. Mrs. Redding and her students visited the library throughout the week to conduct in-depth research using online and print sources. Students learned the importance of gathering information from sources to answer questions, organizing this information into specific categories, and making sure to cite each source utilized during their research.
Using the OPAC to Locate Books
Students have been doing a fantastic job using the OPAC to locate books according to their specific reading levels and interests.
Magnolia PTO Donation
Many thanks to the Magnolia PTO for its generous donation of a grant that provided many new books for the library! These books will be treasured by the students and teachers for years to come!
