Greetings, Panther Families!

Today's minimum day was our third of fifth for the school year to allow us time work on our accreditation document (i.e., WASC) as an entire staff. We've already held one parent information night to gather your input, which is very valuable for this process. Our second WASC parent night will be held on December 11th at 6:00 pm in our library. As we did the first meeting, we will provide dinner; to ensure we have enough food for you, we ask that you please RSVP to Mrs. Maffucci (rmaffucci@cnusd.k12.ca.us) or Ms. Vega (cvega@cnusd.k12.ca.us).

Panther Recognition

AVID and Puente senior, Braulio Armenta, was recognized at the November 12th CNUSD board meeting for Puente Statewide Academic and Leadership. Just last month, Braulio also receveid a Puente scholarship in San Diego at the CA Latino School Board Association's statewide conference.


At our same board meeting, our newest interim assistant principal, Mrs. Delia Carreras, was also approved to begin serving in her new role effective November 13th. Please see below.

Welcome, Mrs. Carreras

Last week we said farewell to Mr. Abbott as he accepted his new position as Upland High School's new principal. With his departure, we now get to welcome back to the Panther family, Mrs. Delia Carreras! Mrs. Carreras began her teaching career at Corona High School eleven years ago, before moving over to Roosevelt High School. There she served as an ELA teacher and the English Learner Program Coordinator, as well as accepting various other roles. As a mother of three boys, she saw two of them graduate from Corona High School (the other from Centennial). Please join us here in welcoming Mrs. Carreras should you have the opportunity to meet her.

Engineering

Our freshman Engineering students have been presenting their ChoreMaster projects. They were tasked with improving devices to make chores easier to accomplish. Their creativity and ingenuity have definitely come out as they built their prototypes!

Health Careers Pathway

On November 12th, STEM students from our Health Careers Pathway had the opportunity to visit the Ben Clark Training Center on the campus of Moreno Valley Commmunity College. Our Corona STEM Academy has had a great partnership with Ben Clark Training Center and MVCC since the inception of the Academy five years ago. Our students have a unique opportunity to get some hands-on training by medical professionals.

At Corona's recent Lemon Festival, Corona High School students took home all but one of the top awards! Five CNUSD high schools submitted artwork for display and competition, and Mrs. Alvarez's students earend recognition from the Best in Show to honorable mentions. Congratulations to our artists!

CA Healthy Kids Survey

A notification was recently sent home with all 9th and 11th students regarding the California Healthy Kids Survey. The survey will be proctored by the 9th and 11th grade Language Arts teachers sometime between October 31, 2019 and November 21, 2019. RAWR

As we continue to promote postive behaviors around campus, for the month of November we will be focusing on the A in RAWR, which stands for accountable. Accountable Panthers strive to take ownership of all their actions and successes!

Activities

Renaissance Rally

Our first Renaissance rally of the year (and second EVER) was held today to recognize both staff and students for a variety of reasons ( such as academic success, behavior, going above and beyond, being PAWSitive, etc.). The circus them was a hit and Mr. Chao, Ms. Porter, and Ms. Lim all received the Tireless Teacher Award. Mrs. Maffucci received her own recognition from our Renaissance leaders for her overall support.

Panthers for CHOC

Our Panthers for CHOC Club is working hard on their toy drive for CHOC Children's Hospital. Collection boxes will placed around campus when we return from Thanksgiving Break, or you may bring your unwrapped toy to donate at our Pancake Breakfast with Santa on December 14th at Applebee's on McKinley. Let's help Team Torres and our Panthers spread some holiday cheer!

MECHA Dance

Canned Food Drive

Canned Food Drive is starting next week! This drive helps to stock shelves at the our local Settlement House. We are collecting any non-perishable food items and students who donate should drop off the cans with their 3rd period teacher. Thank you in advance for your support.

Panthers Gettin' Fit

To promote RAWR behaviors (see below), WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading), and overall Health and Wellness for all staff and students, we are implementing Panthers Gettin' Fit. Each Month, Panthers will focus on a different RAWR behavior. Each week, Panthers will focus on a different component of WICOR in the classroom and a different component of health. In addition to our Panthers being academically healthy, we want them to strive for optimal health in all facets of their lives. We want our Corona family and community to join us in our quest for Panthers being Fit and On Point! RAWR!

Cross Country

Congratulations to Elisa Huerta and Victor Ceja for placing 2nd and 4th, respectively at the Big VIII League finals at Andulka Part in Riverside recently. They both advance to the CIF prelims tomorrow, November 16th. If they finish in the top 15, they will then advance to the CIF finals. Below is some race information:

Congratulations to Savanna Prado on her commitment to Cal State Dominguez Hill! Savanna is a 4-year starter on Varsity as our goalie on Girls Soccer.
