A special summer meeting was held at Val's home in Pass Christian on June 21st in recognition of the Longest Day event for Alzheimers. Members and their families enjoyed delicious burgers grilled by Val's husband, Keith, and sides provided by other members. We were also delighted to have former state presidents, Carol Robertson and Terry Peyton, in attendance. After lunch Ellyn presented sisters who had recruited new members this year with a sponsorship certificate. As people began to depart Jeanie gave out puzzle books to help keep minds sharp. Some members headed to the beach to enjoy the rest of the afternoon. This meeting replaced our usual January meeting, so there will be no January meeting in 2020.

Our chapter raised $116 for the Longest Day for Alzheimers. Thanks to everyone who participated in some way. Remember our chapter is planning to help with the Alzheimer's Walk on Saturday, September 21st, so mark your calendar.

We are planning a fall project to donate basic toiletries to the Capital Area Family Violence Intervention Center. They are in need of basic toiletries and also towels. We are going to fill like new Ipsy bags with sample size essentials such as toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, floss, small comb, etc. The bags are approximately 7.5 x 4 inches. Stacey has at least a dozen bags that we can fill. The center will gladly take any extra supplies or full size items that won't fit into the bags. Let Stacey know if you have any questions about this project. Deadlines for donations and more info will be sent out as we work out the details.

At every meeting, each sister is expected to wear their Alpha Delta Kappa badge. If you forget to wear it, you should donate at least $1.00 to the "pot", which will be donated to the OLOL Children's Hospital at the end of the year.

This would be a great time to make a list of possible recruits for our chapter. Just list everybody you know that would be a good candidate. When an opportunity invites itself or you feel the time is right, invite them to a meeting. It's always fun to bring a friend!

Our violet competition was very successful and fun this year. The three sisters with the greatest number of violet totals were Kristen (62), Jeanie (83), and Stacey (167). Because we are trying to encourage sisters to attend meetings regularly and to grow our membership, attendance will be worth five points next year and bringing a prospective member will be worth ten points. Points will also be awarded to teachers applying for grants and to retired teachers who participate in extra curricular activities with students. Let's continue to work together as a sisterhood to have an awesome chapter!

This year we rewarded sisters for various levels of participation. Sisters earned "violets" as they completed the activities listed below. The sister with the most violets at the end of the year will receive a prize from the Violet Store. The first prize may be a magnetic badge!

-one violet awarded for each meeting you wear the badge to

-one violet awarded for hosting a meeting

-one violet awarded for planning an Alpha Delta Kappa Month event in October

-one violet awarded for wearing pearls or Alpha Delta Kappa colors to a meeting/event

-one violet awarded for posting on Facebook/Instagram/Snapchat (send screen shot to Ellyn)

-other violet worthy activities may be added as the occasions arise

New members no longer need to have two or more years of experience in order to be inducted. Teachers who have graduated and met the requirements for certification and are under contract with a school are now eligible to join. Also retired teachers are now eligible for membership.
