Congratulations to Eadie McDougald, who recently received a Community Service Award from the Anne Loucks Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Eadie volunteers her time to run the Quilting for Hospice and Community Needs class in our Lifelong Education Program. Fifty to seventy students, also known as the Scrappy Quilters, meet each week to work on quilts to donate to local hospitals and other community service organizations.
Hospice Volunteer Program Manager Tami Blaj says, “At the helm of the Scrappy Quilters is organized, efficient, respectful, knowledgeable, amusing, good-hearted Eadie McDougald. She keeps everyone on time, on task, and on the mission of the group.”
Since its inception in the 1990s, the group has donated over 15,000 quilts, which provide comfort to thousands of families in the community.
The group has also made and donated more than 700+ shawls, 700+ afghans, 1,300+ knitted and crochet hats, 3,500+ wheelchair bags, 2,250+ comfort pillows, 5,000+ soft toys, 900+ lap fidget quilts, and 2000+ placemats! Eadie and the Scrappy Quilters are an inspiration to us all!
You can support the project and see their creations at our annual December Open House and Art & Craft Sale. Donations of quilting cotton fabric are appreciated.
