A Back-to-School Message from CVUSD's Superintendent, Dr. Mark McLaughlin
Dear CVUSD Community:
I am excited to welcome you to the start of the 2023-2024 school year on Wednesday, August 23rd! It will be another great year of exceptional educational experiences for all students in the caring learning community that is the Conejo Valley Unified School District.
One of the things that makes the CVUSD so special is the dedicated individuals on our campuses and in our District offices who go above and beyond to support our students each and every day. Together, we hold steadfast to meet and exceed our four District goals:
Implement targeted actions and services that support positive student outcomes. (Student focused)
Ensure highly qualified and effective staff are provided with targeted professional development, and have an understanding that all job responsibilities are structured to support positive student outcomes. (Internal focused)
Provide communication and targeted outreach that informs the community of programs & opportunities that support positive student outcomes. (Community focused)
Enhance the social, emotional and physical well-being for all students through targeted actions that support positive student outcomes. (Student and school focused)
More about each goal, and the metrics and outcomes achieved each year are available to review in the District’s Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). It is through this plan, teamwork and positive partnerships that we lead students forward on a path to achieving their academic aspirations. Thank you for being an invaluable part of this process.
To prepare for the school year ahead, please review the important information in this newsletter below.
Let’s continue to advance #CVUSDForward, together, as we head into a new school year full of opportunity!
Sincerely,
Dr. Mark McLaughlin
Proud Superintendent of the Conejo Valley Unified School District

CVUSD’s Child Nutrition Launches New My School Menus Website
The CVUSD Child Nutrition team is excited to announce the launch of the new, interactive My School Menus website!
The My School Menus website allows families and students to access interactive, online breakfast, snack and lunch menus and nutritional information for all school meal programs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please click here to view Conejo Valley Unified School District’s new My School Menus.
When you choose the link to the My School Menus, you will be able to:
Use menus that are interactive (click on a menu item to view serving, nutritional, and allergen information about that item);
Translate the menu into many different languages;
You can filter menu items for allergens and dietary preferences, and much more.
This new website will allow for parents to have the most up-to-date information at their fingertips when it comes to their children’s nutrition.
Please note: Menu items may be changed (substitution may be made) based on product availability. Interactive menus will be updated as quickly as possible.
Free Meals for All Students
School meals for the 2023-2024 school year will be available to all students at no charge. Although all students will receive free meals through the duration of this school year, we request for all families to complete the Online Free / Reduced Meal Application for the 2023-2024 School Year, as this form affects a variety of areas unrelated to school meals, including school funding, college application fees, SAT fees, bus passes and more. Even if your child does not plan to eat school lunches, it is important to fill out this form to help ensure our schools and families receive the available resources.
In accordance with California Education Code 48980, every school district must notify the parents and guardians of each pupil and staff annually of their rights and responsibilities related to school. Please click here to review the 2023-2024 Annual Notice for Students, Parents, and Staff (English) / Aviso Anual para Estudiantes, Padres y Personal (Spanish) which provides a summary of those rights and responsibilities.
Families Please Complete: Important, Required Annual Updates for 23-24
As with each new school year, required Annual Updates must be completed by parents/guardians prior to the first day of instruction. We are pleased to be able to provide all Annual Updates information, including required acknowledgments and permissions, within the Q-Parent Connect Portal again this year. Click here to learn more, including to view a step-by-step instruction guide.
Parent/Guardian Participation - A Top Priority: Advisory Councils & Committees

IMPORTANT: We strongly encourage all CVUSD families and staff members to double check the contact information (phone number, email, and SMS number) provided within their Q profile. If you do not provide a mobile/SMS number and check the box to opt into text messages, you will not receive text message communication - which is a crucial communication method for urgent information to be shared. If you are unsure what contact information you've provided, need assistance to update contact information and/or need to add a mobile/SMS number, please contact your school site's main office.
Note: This message was deployed via email and text message. If you did not receive a text message communication, this likely means that our communication system does not have a mobile/SMS phone number in your profile and/or you did not check the box to receive text communication.
