CELEBRATIONS!
Great things are happening at WCS!
Our K-5th grade students are participating in Global Read Aloud again this year! K-4 students have been enjoying Jaqueline Woodson’s picture books in the library while 3rd-5th graders have been reading the first book in the Future Hero series as a wing . Through these books, we have connected with each other and students all over the world. It’s a fun way to show how books can bring us together!
OUTDOOR CLASSROOM
WAYS TO HELP
Cooler weather is coming, believe it or not! One of the most helpful things families can do is to have their K-2 students practice putting on and taking off their outdoor gear (including hats, coats, mittens and boots) on their own. This skill is a valuable time-saver for everyone and will help get kids out to recess as fast as possible!
FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT
Greetings Wildcat families!
As we make our way to the end of October you might be beginning to think about Halloween and all of the excitement that comes with it! This year it falls on a Tuesday, and I want to inform you that we ask students and staff not to wear costumes to school. Our focus during the day is on learning and we want to minimize distractions as much as possible.
With that in mind, I also discourage families from sending in snacks for the class. As you know we are a nut safe school, which means that in order to ensure safety for ALL students we ask that no peanut/tree nuts or products made with or containing them be sent into school with your child. The reason for this request is that nuts (even airborne particles) are an allergen that may cause a life threatening allergic reaction in some of our students. Since there is no cure for an allergic reaction, the best way to avoid it is through prevention of exposure. We request this of all our faculty, staff, and all students.
I thank you in advance for helping us focus on learning and the safety of our students as we find ways to enjoy this exciting Holiday.
Take care, Mr. Libby
DODGEBALL
Dodgeball has begun, much to the delight of middle school students and staff! Teams are in wild competition for the winning title. Play continues from 3-4pm on Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays.
ODYSSEY OF THE MIND: COACHES WANTED!
Odyssey of the Mind for WCS is beginning mid December for middle schoolers, and in January for our k-2 team. Odyssey of the Mind encourages critical thinking, problem solving in real time, cooperation and communication in a group setting within the context of expressing creativity. Team members, seven people per team, develop a deep sense of camaraderie, friendship, and self competence as they create a unique performance to present at a statewide tournament in March.
Teams usually meet once per week, after school, over approximately 10 weeks. Coaches work together to come up with strategies to support the teams and pool resources. As we plan for the upcoming season if there is any parent, caregiver, grandparent, teacher/school staff, or young adult with an interest in coaching a third and/or fourth grade team please reach out to Anita Lichman at anita624@hotmail.com. There is support available for you if you should take on the challenge!
