Hemlock & K.C. Ling Elementary Newsletter
The Week of September 2nd - 6th
Welcome Back, Huskies!
Wow! What a great start to the new school year! I hope you feel the same way and that you and your students are adjusting well to the routines. One of those new routines deals with the morning drop-off procedures for parents. Remember, students are not to be dropped off before 7:20 a.m. at K.C. Ling and 7:25 a.m. at Hemlock Elementary. If you are dropping students off in the line-up, please have them exit your vehicle on the passenger side along the sidewalk. If your child needs assistance, please park in the parking lot and walk them across to keep the flow of traffic moving steadily. Children should not walk from the parking lot to the sidewalk unattended.
My number one priority as the principal is to make sure all of our students are safe here at school. It is important for students to become independent and walk to their desired location (cafeteria, gymnasium, library, classroom, locker) and carry their own backpacks without parent assistance. For that reason, but more importantly for the safety and security of our students, I ask that parents and visitors not walk through the hallways or go to their child’s locker/classroom in the morning before the start of the school day. I greatly appreciate your understanding and support. This will go a long way toward helping us achieve our mission of keeping our students safe at all times.
We do encourage parents to volunteer in their child’s classroom. Those arrangements should be made with the teacher, and most have already communicated that with you. When volunteering in the building, I ask that you please sign-in at the office and wear a visitor sticker.
As always, thank you for all your support!

NWEA Testing
Over the course of the next three weeks, all of our students will be participating in NWEA testing. The results of these tests allow us to provide instruction that is tailored to student achievement data. These test results also help us measure your student’s academic growth throughout the school year as they are administered three times each year (Fall, Winter, Spring). If you have any questions or would like more information about the NWEA tests, please feel free to contact Mrs. Gensch.
