The Honor
Kappa Delta Pi | Seton Hall University | MAY Vol. 3.9
May Day all Month Long
The word may means:
- Expressing possibility as in 'that may be true'
- Expressing permission as in 'you may do that'
- Expressing hope as in 'may you do well'
Possibility - Permission - Hope

5th Annual Nassan’s 5K Walk for Autism Recap
On Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Elmwood Park, East Orange, NJ from 8am – 1pm, several KDP volunteers came together, raised awareness about Autism and served our local community by setting up, handing out T-shirts to the participants and cleaning up at the end. In addition to the walk, there were activity tables for children (including face painting) and resource tables for attendees/participants. Thank you all who attended! A special THANK YOU to KDP SHU Chapter Treasurer Caroline A. Gartley for organizing this successful event!

New Books to Check out in May
1. The Cost Of Living
By Deborah Levy ($16.79, Penguin) Stitching a life back together after her divorce, Levy’s memoir is a tribute to the minutiae of living. From ruminating on becoming a shamen while fixing her faulty plumbing or reflecting on her mother's death every time she drinks from a Turkish coffee cup – a remembrance gift from her local newsagent – this book is a slim-but-poetic powerhouse.
2. The Fire This Time
Edited by Jesmyn Ward ($8.25, Bloomsbury) A response to James Baldwin’s 1963 breakthrough collection of essays on civil rights and racial injustice, The Fire This Time brings together some of contemporary writing’s most powerful voices to explore race in the US today and what comes next. From murals across cities that demand the fight for equal rights to Jesmyn Ward’s own search for her genetic and cultural heritage, it’s an anthology not to be missed.
3. Factfulness
By Hans Rosling ($16.79, Hodder & Stoughton) War, pollution, climate change, poverty, Everything Sucks has been cancelled… If you think the world is a troubled and dark place then you’d be right. You’d also only be looking at half the picture, though, according to Swedish academic Rosling (sadly, he died last year, making this a posthumous publication finished by his son and daughter-in-law). After all, girls and women are now better educated, life expectancy is rising – we just need to look at things differently. An unexpectedly uplifting read.
4. Painter to the King
By Amy Sackville ($17.49, Granta) A portrait of the painter Velázquez, who worked for King Philip IV of Spain for 38 years until his death, this is a transcendent piece of writing that somehow manages to capture Velázquez’ art while exploring humans’ enduring desire for power, for position and to outlive death itself. Described by The Essex Serpent author, Sarah Perry, as “the finest novel of its kind that I have ever read”, this is a book that will continue to resonate as more readers discover its wonders.
