Mini Seminars at Mega Lunch This Week
We will continue to offer mini seminars during Mega Lunch this week. Each will be during A Block lunch in their assigned classrooms. These are recorded video conferences. Students can choose which session they go to, however, once the classroom is at capacity then the session is closed and you’ll have to select another session to attend.
Students may only get extra credit for ONE session per week.
Next Week's Mega Lunch Guest Speaker: Samuel Pietsch
Samuel Pietsch, a senior at UT Dallas
Date: Wednesday, March 30th
Topic: Drones
Location: Auditorium
Time: 10:41-11:20 AM
The talk will concern how drone strikes have evolved from when the United States first started using them as a counter-terrorism tool and will cover the arguments for and against the use of drone strikes
“Most of my adult life has been shaped by speech and debate. I was on my debate team for all four years in high school. Before I graduated I was ranked among the top fifty extemporaneous speakers in the country and was part of a public forum team that was also ranked in the top fifty nationally. Both of these activities required me to cultivate extensive knowledge on a variety of domestic and international issues such as the issues of drone strikes that I will be discussing at Weatherford High School.”
An Announcement for AP History Students: Blended Learning AP Government & AP Economics Course for 2016-2017
Next year we will be offering a blended learning section for AP Government and AP Economics. Blended learning courses provide a personalized learning experience for students. These courses involve an online component, as well as face to face instruction. Students are able to move at their own pace and receive help along the way. Students will use Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) and Google Apps for Education in this course. This is a first for WHS and a great opportunity for students.
Here is a link to a 6-minute video describing the format of the course: https://www.movenote.com/v/RRIeaIXXAWE1g
IMPORTANT: If you would like to take this course, you MUST fill out a course request form and submit it to your counselor by Wednesday, March 23. Your counselor must place you in the course.

Unified Nationals Bowling Tournament News
The Weatherford Special Roos traveled to Reno Nevada on February 29 to compete in the 2016 Unified Nationals Bowling Tournament on March 2nd for 4 person teams and March 3rd for Doubles. While there on March 2nd the Special Roos attended a bowling clinic presented by professional bowlers Bobby Hart and Jimmy Schroeder, it was great to receive some fantastic tips from these professionals. We bowled against 12 other states from 54 delegations breaking down into 2 different shifts. On Wednesday morning Ally Dooley, Michael Leinweber, David Broumley and Rylie Hudson competed in their division winning Silver medals, that afternoon William Harris, Anna Dooley, Lance Newby, and Beverly York also won Silver medals. On Thursday morning doubles shift Ally & Michael won Silver medals, David & Rylie won Bronze medals, Anna & Lance won Bronze. That afternoon William and Beverly won Bronze medals too. These team members start practice in August- 3 hours a day- one a week continuing thru to March. To get to Unified Nationals you must compete in November at Area games then on to State Winter games in Austin. You then hopefully receive an invitation to apply for Unified Nationals Bowling and thru the process your delegation is picked to represent Texas Special Olympics. The coach of these Special Roos is Regina Harris and she is very proud of them for everything they have accomplished. 10 Silver medals and 6 Bronze medals. I especially want to say thank you to the unified partners, Anna, Ally. Rylie, Beverly for giving up your time to compete with Michael, Lance, William and David and making our teams the best they could possibly be this season.
