CSD Top 3
Your monthly school district newsletter
Thursday, May 4
Good Afternoon Families,
We have many exciting events happening in the Canby School District as the end of the school year approaches. Be sure to check the online calendar for all schools so you don’t miss out on anything! Now, please enjoy this month’s CSD Top 3, those three things we think you’d like to know, plus the lunch menus.
Educator Appreciation Week is almost here
This year, Educator Appreciation Week is on May 8-12. At that time, along with schools nationwide, Canby School District will honor its licensed educators, including teachers. If you wish to celebrate those educators who have made a difference in your or your student’s life, consider dropping them a letter or hand-drawn card!
Canby Schools about to see big upgrades
Funds from the 2020 capital improvement bond are still at work around Canby School District, with the new high school wing being the largest project. Brick work and sheetwork have begun, which means the 50,000 square-foot science and general education wing is looking more and more like a real building. In addition to classrooms and labs, the new addition will also offer comfortable common spaces for students to enjoy for meals or studying, and more. It’s slated to open in the fall. To follow the progress, check out the live construction camera.
Beginning this spring and continuing into summer, four remaining schools – Eccles, Knight, Trost, and Ninety-One – will receive security upgrades, classroom technology, and intercom systems. Once the work is complete, all schools across the district will have uniform systems. This summer, Eccles will also receive exterior paint, a new roof, and improved HVAC system. Lee will see a new HVAC system as well, and Ninety-One School will get exterior upgrades.
Summertime tips and opportunities for kids
Tips
Change can be stressful, and summertime is a change! Many of us look forward to family activities, camping, etc., but summer break can also cause stress and anxiety as our typical routines are disrupted.
Check out the following tips to help students transition more easily into summer and back to school in the fall; then read on to see some structured activities available in Canby School District this summer.
Stick to regular times for wake-up and bedtime.
Set daytime routines for meals, rest, age-appropriate responsibilities and more. When kids know what they’re doing and what’s expected of them, anxiety and stress are reduced.
Stay active. Having activity times built into each day will help your child be their best and enjoy their summer!
Spend time together. Game nights or evening walks are wonderful ways to build fun family time into your summer routine.
Read! Read to your child or have them read to you. If your child is older, set time aside for them to read on their own. Read the same book for yourself and discuss it with them.
Opportunities
Canby School District, with local partners, has always provided many opportunities for summer learning and enrichment. This year, the state likely will not provide a summer learning grant as in previous years. However, we are still working to offer as many opportunities as we can! Thanks to migrant education funds, we will hold our annual Acceleration and Enrichment Academy for students in the migrant education program and some students who qualify as English learners. We will also provide an opportunity for credit recovery. Save the dates for the following opportunities! Registration information is coming soon.
What's for Lunch?
Check out the new monthly meal menus here. If you have not applied for free school meals, do so today either online or using a paper application.
Please note that menus are subject to change.
Community Bulletin Board
For information on upcoming events and opportunities for children and families, take a look at the flyers posted on our Community Bulletin Board. Note that many flyers are submitted from outside Canby School District, and Canby School District does not necessarily sponsor or endorse them.
