Third Grade Teacher - Cambridge Academy
WELCOME TO MRS. BLAIR'S BUSY BEES!!!
I am pleased and excited to welcome my students to third grade in Cambridge Academy. Go Cougars!!!
I have a B.S. in Electronics Engineering and M.Ed. in Early Child Education from Mercer University with summa cum laude honors, and am certified to teach pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade in the state of Georgia and Texas, with ESOL endorsement and Gifted Certifications in both states. With the graduate education at a prestigious institution and my 18 years experience in the elementary classroom in various school environments, I am confident in my ability to be a valuable asset.
I truly believe that every child is entitled to an enriched education from a team of professional, well-respected teachers. My personal teaching philosophy is that each child deserves to have the opportunity to learn in his or her own specific learning style, creating a hands-on learner centered environment, based on values, respect, and trust. My goal is to take pride in my career, and I know that being a teacher will take me to that level.
Throughout my experience, I have developed strong and effective classroom management, differentiated instructions to meet all students’ academic needs, applied instructional best practices, developed learner assessment, successfully worked collaboratively with the team, and taught hands-on, minds-on activities.
I am prepared to work hard and take on daily challenges in teaching. I feel that my biggest reward in teaching is watching the children I teach grow into adults and knowing that I have helped to shape the adults they will become.
Communication/Homework/Reading:
I believe communication and working as a team are critical to your student's success and the classroom. Your child will have a yellow homework folder they will bring home Monday - Thursday. The yellow folder with completed homework and reading log signed is due on Friday. There is also a spot for a parent/guardian signature. The purpose of homework is to reinforce lessons and ensure understanding. Homework is my window to see where the student is and if we as a class need to spend a bit more time on the material before moving forward.
Reading is a part of homework. It is done for 20 minutes daily by reading a book, listening to a book (i.e. Audible), listening and watching the stories on storylineonline.com, listening on Epic!, etc. Parent/Guardian has to sign the reading log in the homework packet.
Spelling list and spelling homework is included. Students have to finish ANY THREE (3) items for the spelling homework and it is due on Friday.
A yellow homework folder will come home on Monday for you to review assignments and knowledge checks (test) from the week prior. It will include homework.
Please, do not hesitate to reach out to me at mblair@cambridgeacademy.org or call me at 678-860-5791.
Expectation/Snack:
I expect all students to be in class and in their seats before the bell rings with two pencils sharpened, the bathroom necessity completed, bags unpacked, and ready to start their day. As students wait for the bell and announcement to start, this is the time to complete morning work for ELA, Math, and Writing. The class will begin promptly at the end of the announcements, 8:05AM, and any student that comes in after will be marked unexcused tardy. Our snack time is at 9:00AM – 9:20AM. Water bottles are only to have water in them for recess and PE, no sugar drinks. Also, no energy drinks or Starbucks are allowed in class. Please keep all electronics at home; cell phones, iPads, etc. are not permitted in K-5th grade according to the school’s policy.
Please contact me at 678-860-5791 or via email at mblair@cambridgeacademy.org if you have any questions/comments.
Thank you for entrusting your child with me at Cambridge Academy. I look forward to getting to know each one of my busy bees.
Have a BUZZ-worthy year!!!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Maja D. Blair
