The Tiger Times
Lewistown Elementary School Newsletter, January 8th
Dear Lewistown Families,
We hope that our LES Tigers had the opportunity to enjoy the snow over the weekend! At the Fockler house, we enjoyed a large pot of homemade soup and delicious desserts to help us get through the weekend! As we move through the winter weather, FCPS has been strategically planning for Learning @ Home Days to keep students connected to learning in the event of an inclement weather closure, mitigate disruption to the momentum of mid-year learning and to minimize additional days at the end of the year. Our Lewistown Elementary Team has been working on developing an individualized plan for our young Tigers. We will be communicating our LES Learning @ Home Plan in the future- stay tuned! You can find information regarding FCPS Learn @ Home Days below.
We'd like to extend a warm welcome to Hannah Zebroski, our new Special Education Pyramid Coordinator! Ms. Zebroski experiences range from Kennedy Krieger School, FCPS, and most recently Howard County Public schools. Let's give her a warm LES welcome!
We will be having a LES Volunteer Orientation on Tuesday, January 9th at 8:45. All are welcome to attend!
Stay warm and take care,
Mrs. Fockler
Principal, Lewistown Elementary School
β€οΈ Get Ready for LES Kids Heart Challenge! π
Kids Heart Challenge, Mr. Swope
Lewistown ES families,
Get ready for the American Heart Associationβs Kids Heart Challenge, kicking off on 1/11 with donations due on 2/15. We are doing some exciting things in your childβs Phys. Education class. We are happy to share with you that we are bringing back Kids Heart Challenge, formally known as Jump Rope for Heart! This is going to be a great opportunity for your child to learn what makes a healthy heart! We will be learning about what physical activities strengthen your heart and what foods are healthy for us and our heart.
We are having a Kids Heart Challenge Kick Off next Thursday. Samantha Studholme, from American Heart Association will be leading our Kick Off. There will be a pledge sheet coming home with your child that day, so be on the lookout!
We are excited about this event for this school year and so are the kids! Thank you for your support!!!
Sincerely,
Mr. Swope

βοΈ FCPS Learning @ Home (Snow Day News)
As you may know, Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) has been approved by the Maryland State Department of Education to implement up to three virtual instructional days in lieu of systemwide closure during inclement weather. While not necessarily the first option, the Learning @ Home days provide FCPS flexibility in responding to various weather emergencies. In developing the FCPS plan, our goal is to: mitigate disruption to learning mid-year; minimize additional days that often need to be added at the end of the school year; and keep students connected to learning in the event of an extended closure.
As a result, our school has been engaged in planning and preparation for this possibility, to ensure full readiness if a virtual instruction day were to be implemented.
Announcement of a Learning @ Home Day would be made 1-2 days in advance, based on a forecasted weather event. The first βsnow dayβ of the year will always be a traditional closure.
A Lewistown Learn @ Home Newsletter will be shared soon!
