The East Butler "Board Brief" is a monthly online publication that focuses on sharing the important highlights of the East Butler Public School's Board of Education meeting.

Prior to the July regular School Board Meeting, the School Board conducts a student fee hearing to hear feedback from patrons regarding the school's student fee policy. The hearing began at 6:15 pm and concluded at 6:30 pm.

The Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association (NRCSA) Executive Director, Jack Moles was present at the meeting to share with the school board the services that NRCSA offers its members schools.

SUMMER PROJECTS 2023

Superintendent Eldridge reported that all projects are on schedule or ahead of schedule.

Superintendent Eldridge shared with the school board the work that has been done to prepare for the new budget and tax asking. Although the work has just begun, the following information was shared with the school board:

East Butler Projected Land Valuations (County Assessor has until August 20th to certify)

Butler County - $584,757,504 (+14.19%)

Saunders County - $353,294,460 (+6.7%)

Seward County - $89,344,744 (+7.92%)

TOTAL - $1,027,396,708 (+10.95%)

Projected - General Fund Budget (TENTATIVE)

$7,890,059 (+2.0%)

• Superintendent Eldridge shared with the board that he has been working on reducing the budget in several areas - transportation and other services. However, the increase in salaries and benefits for the staff also must be considered when setting the budget.

The Timeline for setting the Budget & Tax Asking is as follows:

August 20

• Assessed Valuations and real growth percentages certified by Counties

September 5

• Deadline to notify and submit information to the County Assessor if Joint Public Hearing is required.

September 14-23

• Joint Public Hearing is scheduled during this time if required.

September 30

• Filing deadline for Budget and LC-2 to NDE, APA, and County Clerk

November 5

• Tax requests become final

The East Butler Public School District will be entering year two of implementing a Before and After School program. It has been widely well-received by parents and patrons of our school. Currently, our project numbers for the 2023-2024 school year will be:

Dwight - 20

At the June board meeting, the school board discussed staffing needs and considered an adjustment to the compensation for staff members that work at the Tiger Kids Club.

The school board moved to adjust the compensation to $25/hour for all adult workers (staff or community members), and $15/hour for student workers (current high school age students).

MOTION PASSED: 5-1

Annually, the school district attorney (KSB School Law), provides the school with policy updates so that the policies that are in place reflect any changes to the law that have taken place due to recent legislation that may have passed.

The board of education took the month of June to review these updates.

The School Board moved to adopt the updated KSB Law policies.

Annually the school board considers any updates brought to them, by the administrative team, for the Parent/Student Handbook.

The Administrative team shared with the school board those updates prior to any action taking place.

The School Board moved to adopt the 2023-2024 Parent/Student Handbook.

The East Butler Public School's Board of Education meets on the second Wednesday of every month in the library at the Brainard school building. Each meeting starts at 6:30 pm.
