Message from Principal Salfia

To The Spring Mills High School Community:
I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving with your families! We are so proud of our students and of the growth they’ve shown throughout this first semester. Thank you for all of your help and support.
I want to send out some reminders about morning and afternoon procedures. Please help us by following these rules to ensure we are keeping everyone safe. We understand the traffic is very heavy, especially in the mornings. We need everyone to follow these rules to move traffic along as smoothly as possible.
- The tardy bell for students is 7:28am. We will continue to lock our side doors by the health hallway at 7:28. Any student arriving after 7:28 must enter through our front doors. Please understand the reason for this. For safety purposes, we are required to allow only one entry point after school starts. Our adult supervision is in the front of the building after the tardy bell rings, and the teachers in the health hallway are in class with their students.
- All parent drop off is on the north end of the building by the health hallway. We have signs marking bus entry/exit, parent entry/exit, and student entry/exit. Please help us out by not parking along the side of the road. I understand as it gets colder you may want your child to stay in the car a couple extra minutes. If you are having your child wait in your car, please park in the back of the parking lot near the tennis court then drive your child to the drop off area before you exit.
- All parent traffic in the mornings must go to the north parking lot. The front parking lot is for special education buses and for students who need assistance with entering the building. We have a sign as you enter our campus instructing all parent drop offs to go to the north lot until 7:40. We can typically allow parents to start dropping off in the front a few minutes earlier than this, but it won’t be until after 7:28 when all of our buses have exited.
- If a student rides a bus that is late for any reason, we are able to excuse those tardies. We cannot excuse a tardy of a student driver or parent drop off for traffic. Please consider having your child ride their bus to help alleviate the number of vehicles coming to school. As the school year progresses, more students get their drivers licenses which means we will have more student drivers second semester than we do first semester.
- All parent pickup after school is in the north lot, with the same procedures as morning drop off.
Our dismissal bell rings at 2:38. We will dismiss as many cars as we can from 2:38 until our buses are ready to exit. Usually our buses exit at 2:43. At that time we will
stop parent and student traffic until the buses have left campus. Again we ask that you please use the north lot so we can keep our front and south lots clear for our buses.
Thank you all so much for your help and patience with these procedures. We appreciate all you do to make our school a better place as we strive to create the best student experience in the state of West Virginia.
Sincerely
Mark Salfia, Principal
