Nurse's Corner
A friendly reminder from Mrs. McLaughlin...
We had numerous students in the Health Office with ticks on them.
The nice weather adds to the time we are spending outside both inside and outside of school.
It is important for students and parents to thoroughly check hair and clothing every day.
The CDC offers great information on prevention and tick removal.

Kodomo No Hi Celebration - Children's Day
This is a national holiday in Japan that celebrates the growth and happiness of children. It was originally Boys day but was changed in 1948 to include all children. On this day, every family flies a large carp shaped windsock for each child in the household. These carp windsocks are called Koi No Bori. The carp(koi) symbolizes strength & success. According to a legend, a carp swam upstream and became a Japanese dragon.
Mrs. Mullaly's Global Arts class and Mrs. Carano's Agriculture class participated in an interdisciplinary activity to learn about Kodomo No Hi and celebrate. They made Japanese Banana Pancakes and created box kites to fly. They also played Mukade Kyoso, a children's game played in Japan.

13 Diver Licenses Display
The grade 8 social studies classes had a holocaust exhibit displayed in the auditorium. The exhibit is titled “13 Drivers Licenses” because it showcases 13 driver's licenses left behind by the Jewish citizens of Lichtenfels, Germany during Kristallnacht November 9-10,1938. A group of German students were given these licenses 80 years later and given the task to research these individuals. Our students interacted with the information as part of their curriculum and brought their learning outside the classroom. Thank you to Mrs. Hardy who made this all happen.
