BSD Update

October 1, 2023
Dear Bremerton School District community:
I hope this letter finds you and your families in good health and spirits. The safety and well-being of all of our students are our primary concern in the Bremerton School District. As a school community, it is our responsibility to create a safe and supportive environment where students can thrive academically and personally.
This weekend, we received information about a threat of violence circulating among Bremerton High School students online. We have been working with law enforcement to investigate. While we do not believe the threat is legitimate or poses a risk to our schools, students or staff, in abundance of caution, we will have extra security and law enforcement on the Bremerton High School campus tomorrow.
I want to assure our entire community that the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain our utmost priority. Our schools have comprehensive safety and security plans in place. Here are a few ways that we are working to keep all children safe while they are at school:
- Secure Campuses: All of our campuses are equipped with cameras and secure entrances to ensure that only authorized individuals are allowed on school grounds. All school visitors must show ID and check-in at the welcome center prior to entering our schools.
- Student Supervision: Our dedicated faculty and staff closely supervise students throughout the day, both inside and outside of the classroom.
- Conflict Resolution: Our staff work with students to find productive ways to resolve their differences. At Bremerton High School, our restorative coordinators work to help repair, build and strengthen the student relationships through the restorative/community building process.
This incident serves as a timely reminder for us all to maintain open lines of communication.
- Report Concerns: Please promptly report any suspicious or concerning behavior to school officials or local law enforcement.
- Encourage Open Dialogue: We encourage you to have open and ongoing conversations with your children about safety. We ask that you monitor your children’s social media activity and speak with them about proper behavior online.
Even when these threats are not credible, we recognize they can cause stress and anxiety for our students, families, and staff. Please know that we take all threats seriously and will always respond appropriately in a manner that protects the safety of all students, staff and our school community.
Thank you for your partnership as we work to ensure a safe, secure, and positive learning environment for our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to Patty Glaser, our District supervisor for school support & safety at 360-473-1003 or Patty.Glaser@BremertonSchools.org
Sincerely,
Dr. James Crawford
Superintendent
