5th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Leadership Message
This week St. John XXIII students poured their love into creating cards for seniors on Valentine's Day by working with Paper Bag Fairies. May our Valentine messages bring love to our seniors. May they know how much they are surrounded by prayers and love from our community.
Through these good works, we respond as the community God calls us to be, being active citizens and loving one another as He loves us.

Celebrating Valentine's Day: February 14
This year we will celebrate Valentine’s Day at school on Tuesday, February 14. We will not be collecting cards in advance.
Request and reminder as we approach the “sweet” day of Valentine’s Day: Please do not send in any food items as “treats” along with Valentine’s cards for our classmates. We have many students with various food allergies. If you choose to add a special something, you are most welcome to add any non-food items such as a pencil, sticker, or bookmark.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and understanding.
Please join us on Feb. 15 at 6:30 if you want to learn more about our fabulous early learning programs.
St. John XXIII Arctic Winter Games - Wednesday, Feb. 8th
Our St. John XXIII Arctic Winter games helps us learn more about important Northern cultures and traditions and develop physical literacy skills.
It is always a great day! Ask your children about what they have learned and which was their favourite event! Here is a link to the official 2023 Arctic Winter Games

World Read Aloud Day Read-Off!
4 New Books + 4 Readers = 1 World Read Aloud Day Read-Off Champion!
St. John celebrated World Read Aloud Day on Wednesday, February 1st (and Thursday and Friday, too). Our students heard four new stories and then voted for their favourite. The winner . . . The Antlered Ship written by Dashka Slater and illustrated by the Caldecott Award winning Fan Brothers.
Our Kinders heard two stories, and they chose Boy written by Phil Cummings and illustrated by Shane Devries as their Read-Off Champion.
Fish in Schools (FinS) has returned to our St. John Learning Commons!
We are so grateful to Mrs. Buban, our amazing librarian, for running this program once again! The grade 3 classes help Mrs. Buban take care of the school trout. Everyday, they check the temperature, the tank, and make sure the fish are healthy.
A message from Mrs. Buban:
St. John XXIII is grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Bow Habitat Station FinS Program to bring a unique learning experience to our Library Learning Commons.
Over the next few months students and staff will work together to maintain and monitor the development of rainbow trout – from egg to fry – in our Learning Commons aquarium! Our FinS aquarium is a small-scale version of Alberta’s provincial fish hatcheries and is designed to mimic natural habitats of wild rainbow trout as they grow.
Students will learn about life cycles, healthy aquatic ecosystems, environmental stewardship and fisheries stocking before releasing their fry into a provincially approved waterbody.
We would like to thank Petland Fort Saskatchewan for their help with our project.
