VERY IMPORTANT-Weather Updates
Parents, it is that time of year for winter weather!! Just a reminder that updates can be found on our school and district website, as well as the local news stations. Please remember that we will use all of our snow days before we use any eLearning days. Those days are:

We will have our activity picture day for the yearbook on February 7th.
Transportation
We are asking that any requests for a transportation change be submitted to the office no later than 1:30 pm daily. A reminder that requests must be consistent throughout the week, meaning that the pick up and/or drop off address remains the same all week. Also please know that once a student has been put on the bus in the afternoon, we are not able to remove them to go to the car rider line. This process delays our buses from departing school on time to run their elementary route and arrive on time for their secondary route. If your child needs to be a car rider for that day, please call the office and inform the office before 1:30 and make sure that your child has a car rider tag. Thanks in advance for your understanding.

NOTE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT, DR. VANCE
Dear SCS families,
When inclement weather arrives, Shelbyville Central Schools remains committed to our children's safety. The decision to delay or close school or schedule an eLearning day is made after careful consideration of numerous factors. We recognize changes to the school schedule impact families, and we will communicate through multiple channels to provide timely information.
Variables affecting school delay and closure decisions can include:
- Snow, freezing rain or ice that potentially create hazardous road and sidewalk conditions. The decision to delay or cancel in these circumstances will often be made in the morning so local conditions can be considered.
- Extremely cold temperatures and wind chill factors. If the air temperature or wind chill is predicted to be -10 degrees or below, the district will consider a delay or closure. This determination will be made as early as possible, depending on the forecast.
- Other events, such as flooding, severe thunderstorms or building utility issues, may also cause delays, early release or cancellation.
These events can also affect extracurricular activities and athletics. In the event of a school cancellation, decisions regarding practice and activities will be made by 2 p.m.
Communication regarding inclement weather will be made via email and a phone call to the parent/guardian contact information listed in PowerSchool. Announcements will also be posted on each SCS school's website and Facebook pages and area TV and radio stations, including Shelbyville's WSVX.
SCS respects a parent's decision to keep their child at home. Please contact the school to report an absence. The student will be counted as absent, per state code, and will be given the opportunity to complete academic work in the same manner as an excused absence.
We take our role in communicating weather-related changes seriously. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's school office with questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Dr. Matt Vance Superintendent
