There will be a parent and student meeting for those interested in participating on Mel Hi's Track and Field team this year. The meeting is on February 11 at 7:00 p.m. in front of the cafeteria. Please park in the Building 9 parking lot between Bulldog Blvd. and Apollo Blvd.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and National Honor Society will be providing breakfast to all staff on Friday, February 12th, starting at 8:00 in the cafeteria. All items will be individually wrapped so staff can take and go. Coffee will be provided as well. This is to celebrate Valentine’s Day and to remind all staff how much they are appreciated and loved.

FCA meets every Wednesday morning in the auditorium at 8:10 a.m. All are welcome to attend. See Ms. Post in Building 10-128 if you have any questions.

National Honor Society applications for Spring membership will be available in building 10 room 128 starting February 15th. You must be a sophomore or junior to apply, have a weighted GPA of 3.7 and be in good standing with teachers and faculty. If you have any questions please see Ms. Post or email her at post.signe@brevardschools.org.

Cheer tryout packets are now available for the 2021-22 school year. If you would like to participate in cheer tryouts please pick up a packet in either the front office or in Mrs. Boos's room (1-228). There will also be a cheer tryout interest meeting on February 23 at 6:30 p.m. outside the cafeteria. Contact Mrs. Boos at boos.courtney@brevardschools.org for more information.

Girls Soccer-The Varsity Lady Bulldogs defeated school rival, Viera Hawks, last night 2-1 in the District Semi Final match. The girls advance to the District Final vs Martin County on Tuesday, 2/9 @6pm at HOME :)

Also, JV finished off their season at an impressive 11 wins and 1 loss. Our motto this year is #STRONGERTOGETHER

Melbourne High is hosting the Girls soccer district championship 6pm Tuesday February 9th. Melbourne vs Martin County.

Boys Soccer-Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Soccer team for their 14-1-2 Record this season. They also earned Number 1 seed in the district. And Good Luck in the playoffs today 5pm at Viera HS vs Harmony.

MHS Library Media Center has its complete catalog online and we have many online resources such as encyclopedias, journals, Library of Congress, countries of the world info, which students can access from home. Media center web links are available from the school home page – under Academics. As new books are added to the collection, they will show up in our catalog on the web. New SAT and ACT books have been purchased and are available for checkout for students getting ready to take these tests. These books contain practice tests and helpful hints for test taking. Are you a junior, who is interested in a career in Health Care? Melbourne High School offers a select program for only 15 seniors each year. This is the P.C.A.; or Patient Care Assistant program. You have the potential of graduating with your state license to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Pre-requisites include:

· You must be a senior

· You must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher

· You should have taken either: Health Science Foundations or Introduction to Healthcare/Medical Terminology or Anatomy & Physiology.

Packets are available now in building 9, room 900. See Mrs. Robbins. Packets must have parents signatures and are due back by Friday, March12th; before Spring Break.

Please call our office at 321-952-5880 x24503 if your child, or someone who lives in your home, tests positive for the Covid-19 virus. We will work with you to determine the correct quarantine dates for your child and ensure continuity of instruction while they are learning from home.

The procedure to return your ELearner to campus for instruction is quick and easy. All you have to do is contact your child's guidance counselor via phone or email with notification that you intend to return your child to campus and on which date the student will return. Counselor names and the last names they serve are shown below:

We distributed textbooks for ELearners on January 21 and 22. If your child still needs a textbook please contact Assistant Principal Cindy Kilmer at 321-952-5880 x 24518 to arrange pick up from the front office.

Mel High teachers want all of their students to be successful. In order for our ELearners to fully benefit from their virtual classroom experience our teachers will maintain and enforce the following expectations:

1. Students should be properly dressed for virtual instruction just as if they were going to attend class on campus. In short, students should not be in their pajamas or beach wear when attending class.
2. Students should plan to log into their class at the time it meets on campus.
3. Students should plan to show their face for the entire period to the teacher. This not only allows the teacher to verify the presence of your child for attendance purposes, it also allows the teacher to fully involve your child in the class. Teachers may mark students absent from class if they refuse to show their face on camera. Remember, ELearning only exists because of the pandemic. In a normal year every child would be showing their face live and in person in the classroom.
4. Students should plan to participate in class for the entire period. They should not walk away from the camera, attend to household chores, or engage in other activities that would not be allowed in a normal school setting.

Bright Futures:

Bright Futures is financial aid provided through the state of Florida by way of a scholarship. As long as you meet the qualifications of GPA, test scores, and volunteer hours and completed this online application in your senior year of high school you will receive a scholarship from Bright Futures. You must turn your volunteer hours in to your school counselor. You can complete this application even if you have not yet met the qualifications. Florida A & M Scholarship--FAMU is offering scholarships to seniors attending FAMU in the fall 2021 semester. See Mr. Boos in guidance for the application. The deadline to apply is March 22.

Collegiate High School-9th and 10th grade students that are on grade level and currently have an eligibility GPA of 3.0 were given a letter in their 1st period class inviting them to a Dual Enrollment/Collegiate High School informational night. Letters for e-learners and students on quarantine were put in the mail on Thursday 2/4/2021. The where, when, and how are all explained in the letter. Be sure to ask your student to see the letter. If your student is interested in any kind of dual enrollment you will want to attend this virtual information session with them.

Please remember this session is only for students that are currently on grade level in 9th or 10th grade and have an eligibility GPA of 3.0 or higher.

EPO/ELO Open Enrollement – 1/4 – 2/26/2021

Open Enrollment has begun. If you are attending Melbourne High School on a program – Educational Program Opportunity (EPO) or through Edcuational Location Option (ELO) you MUST complete your renewal application now. The application window is from January 4 – Feburary 26. FAFSA:

Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This is financial aid provided by the federal government by way of grants, work study, and students loans. Most Universities will require you to complete a FAFSA application before offering you a financial package. Applying for the FAFSA takes two steps:

1. Create a FSA ID – https://studentaid.gov/ - click on Create Account

2. Complete the FAFSA application – https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa

Dress Code Reminders:

• No hats, beanies, or other headwear are permitted on campus.
• Hooded sweatshirts (i.e. "hoodies") are acceptable, but students may not wear their hoods. We must be able to see their faces at all times.
• Shirts with messages or images of drugs, alcohol, violence, sex, or are culturally insensitive are not permitted on campus. Females should ensure that their shirt completely covers their chest in order to preserve their modesty while attending school.
• Pants or shorts must be worn at the natural waist line. Low-riding pants or shorts are not permitted.

Great news! The US Department of Agriculture has extended their summer food service program through June 30, 2021. This means that all BPS students are eligible to receive free breakfast AND lunch at school. Although meals are free to students, it is important that interested families apply for Free and Reduced Lunch (FRL) benefits if they have not done so already. Students with an approved FRL application may be eligible for additional benefits.

Jostens is the local partner for class rings and graduation attire for Melbourne High School. Traditionally, Jostens sends a representative to campus for a live presentation to our junior and senior classes about these items. Due to the pandemic, Jostens has elected to create a completely online ordering platform this year. Please be sure to read through each section that is applicable to your student.

Class rings are available to our junior or senior classes. Graduation attire is for seniors only.
