Happy Halloween! We know that it may be a late evening on Monday as kids get out and trick or treat and we also know that Tuesday might be a little rough. If your child is not able to attend school on Tuesday or if they are going to be coming in late, please call the office at 523-1850 and let us know. We call families for each child who is not in class by 8:15 and it saves so much time when we can avoid those calls because we already know the reason for the absence.

In an effort to keep all students safe and healthy please let your kiddos know that they should not bring candy to share or trade on Tuesday. We will do our best to monitor candy intake but I know from personal experience that kids are great at sneaking a pocketful of goodies. If we find a large amount of candy that did make it to school we will hold on to some of it and they can bring it home at the end of the day. Thank you so much for your support on this. :)

Please check your child's classroom newsletters for information about Halloween activities. Primary students will have the opportunity to participate in a costume parade past the intermediate classrooms in the afternoon. And as I mentioned above, please monitor how much candy they bring to school this week and keep it to a couple small pieces for after lunch. Your teachers thank you! :)

Attendance is very important to support your child's learning. In elementary it can be very difficult to make up missed work since so much of it is based on classroom instruction and guided practice of new skills.

If you are planning a trip in the next couple of months please be sure to complete a long term absence form and return it to school as soon as possible. This form lets us know how to code the absence in Powerschool and it also allows teachers to plan for missed work.

Students will be responsible for making up any work missed due to absences once they return. Teachers are not required to send work with students. We do our best to make case-by-case decisions on how to best support student needs when missing school. Thank you so much for understanding. Link to Long Term (3 days or more) absence form.

I wish we had the room to store lost and found items all year but we are quickly getting overwhelmed with unclaimed items! Please write your child name in their coats and snow pants. When we go through lost and found we look for names and hand deliver items back to kids! We are happy to help with that, but all of the items in these pictures have no names. Every month we go through and anything that has not been claimed goes to Goodwill. If you are missing a coat or other item and you see it in these pictures you can call us and we will pull it and get it to your kiddo. Thanks for your help on this.

As some of you may have heard Nurse Maureen has taken a new position supporting nursing services and policies in schools at a statewide level. Nurse Maureen has been an integral part of Harborview school. She tirelessly led us through the last two years of Covid, supporting students and families to keep all of our community safe and healthy. I do not know what I would have done without her expert guidance and support. We wish her well in her new position (and don't worry, I still have her cell phone number! :) )

And a very warm and grateful welcome to Nurse Kathryn Doll R.N. Kathryn will be with us through November 19th.

That will give us time to seek out a permanent replacement for Nurse Maureen. If you know of someone who would be perfect for the job and might be interested in summers off and school hours please let them know that we are looking. As I get more information on a permanent replacement I will put it in the newsletter!

My name is Kacie Andreotti and I look forward to working as a long term substitute in Harborview's English Language classroom! I have four years of classroom teaching experience both within the district and in WA State. I have gotten the opportunity to work with kids of all ages and thoroughly enjoy watching every child learn and grow!

As we head into November we will be seeing colder temps and it looks like we may get quite a bit of snow! Please make sure you child comes prepared for cold weather. Temperature and windchill are factors that impact if our recess is outdoors but we do go out even when temps drop below zero so a warm coat, gloves, hat, snowpants, and boots are very important. If you need any support getting any of these items please just let us know. We are happy to assist you. You can contact our office or our counselor, Ms. Jem, at 523-1850.
