A Note from Mrs. Pitts
Dear RES Families and Supporters,
Ok, this is a fun one! We are asking YOU, our families, to engage in a fun project...NAME THE NEW PLAYGROUND! As we move towards a new playground, we want to have a name for a variety of reasons, such as planning for a new sign! We have decided it is time for a new name to match the new structures and would love your help!
Please email Michelle Pitts at resoffice@sau50.org with your families final decision and we will announce the name in the spring.
Warmly,
Michelle Pitts

Principal Chats
As we plan the rest of the school year, I have scheduled a morning and an evening of reflection and conversation with families. The title of this discussion will be "RES 101." During this time, I will plan to share with you the accomplishments of the year, thus far, as well as educate families on our "next steps" and common language we use at school each day. I would LOVE to have some feedback on topics you might find helpful. I want to cover as much as possible and know there might be questions and education that might be covered if I know your questions ahead of time. Thank you for your consideration!

Conferences
Here is the information about conferences one more time so you are aware of a change in our traditional conference schedule for THIS year. March 12 , teachers will engage in a rare opportunity to engage in professional development alongside ALL of the SAU 50 staff. Due to this change, teachers will act as a team to conduct conferences on either January 23 or some time in the month of March.
- If your child's conference is on January 23, you either have heard from them already or will shortly. This will be the conference that would typically occur in March so you would NOT hear from these teachers to plan another formal contact in March.
- If you have not heard from your child's teacher, the plan for that grade level is to email families with information about how you might connect in the month of March.
Please know that we do want to stay connected to our families and you can always reach out if you want to connect or discuss your child's strengths or any wonderings you might have regarding their progress.
Thank you for your support and understanding!

This Week's Highlights
Spanish Play and Puppet Show!
After studying vocabulary associated with tortillas, and cooking and eating tortillas of our own, third grade students prepared and performed their own creative version of La Pequeña Gallina Roja, where the little red hen makes tortillas. Students discussed the nutrients found in tortillas, their cultural significance and the emotions displayed in the characters in the play in our World Language Health class and regular World Language class. The third graders did an excellent job presenting this story entirely in Spanish to a variety of grade levels and family members in several different performances throughout the week!
Mona Lisa
To kick off a unit about art awareness in picture books that will lead to learning about the annual Caldecott Award for best American illustrator of a picture book, students acted out a story about the theft of the Mona Lisa in 1911. Students often act out and practice their speaking and listening skills, as well as their inflection and fluency during library time. It can be quite magical to see!

Lunch with Students
We do allow one family member at a time to have lunch with their child(ren) but this is very optional and we don't want families to feel pressured to attend.
- Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time (starting October 1). It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
- We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
- Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria.
- Lunch times are:
Kindergarten-11:45-12:10
First Grade-12:15-12:40
Second Grade-12:15-12:40
Third Grade- 11:15-11:40
Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40

- Helmets are encouraged
- hot cocoa will be provided
- rentals are covered by PTA!!
- this year asking for some parents to donate some snacks for the skaters who need a pick me up
- two sessions- 4:30- 6:30 will be dedicated to RES children, slots 7-9 will be dedicated to RJH children for safety reasons. If you have students at both schools pick what works best for you, we just do not want the littles in earlier time slot to get overrun by the bigs!
