Bobcat Broadcast
November 17, 2023
A MESSAGE FROM MRS. CAUDILL
This time of year reminds me of how thankful I am to be a part of this amazing Amerman community! This week was a reminder of that. Last night we celebrated all of Amerman's amazing cultures (video and pictures to come) and today we celebrated raising over $21,000 by wearing our pajamas, eating popcorn, and taping me to the wall. I am grateful everyday that I have the privilege to work with a talented and dedicated staff and an incredibly supportive school community. Amerman Bobcats are the best!
We are excited to continue with the idea of homework-free “Well-Being Breaks” for all of our major school holidays/breaks. We believe school breaks should be just that - a brief reprieve from school responsibilities like homework, special projects, planning, and grading. It is a time to reconnect with loved ones without the stress of schoolwork creeping in. Therefore, all students AND staff will be free of academic-related work during the following dates:
Thanksgiving Break (Wednesday, November 22 - Sunday, November 26)
Winter Break (Saturday, December 23 - Sunday, January 7)
Mid-Winter Break (Friday, February 16 (1/2 day of school) - Monday, February 19)
Spring Break (Saturday, March 23 - Sunday, March 31)
Making sure that our students, staff, and families have the opportunity to detach themselves from school completely—physically and mentally—on the days they’re off is an important part of our commitment to honoring the whole person. Leader in Me calls this “Sharpening the Saw”. In other words, we know our students and staff have lives outside of school and guess what? We want them to enjoy those healthy, balanced lives! This means we want you to take the time to rest, relax, and rejuvenate!
Please note that our office plans on following this same advice, and as a result, there will be no Bobcat Broadcast during the Thanksgiving Holiday. Please look for a new Bobcat Broadcast on Friday, December 1st.
Reminder, we look forward to seeing you at conferences which are scheduled on the following dates and times:
- Wednesday, November 29th - Evening conferences 4:00-7:00 PM
- Thursday, November 30th - Afternoon conferences 1:00-3:55 PM
- Thursday, November 30th - Evening conferences 4:00 -7:00 PM
- Friday, December 1st - Afternoon conferences 1:00-3:45 PM
Please click on the link below if you have not yet signed-up to meet with your child's teacher. I hope you have a relaxing break full of family, fun, and togetherness.
With Gratitude,
Devon Caudill

YOUR INPUT IS NEEDED
Northville Public Schools is Applying to Receive Grant Funding Through the State School Aid Act
This funding is designated for activities, services, or products necessary to improve or maintain the mental health of students and staff and/or improve student safety.
We are seeking input and feedback from district stakeholder groups, including students, parents and staff members, as we begin to develop a plan for the most appropriate use of the funds to support the mental health and safety needs of students, within the parameters of the grant.
Your input is valued greatly and we hope you take a few minutes and participate in this brief survey. We look forward to learning about your thoughts, ideas and priorities for use of these funds to support mental health and improve student safety.
Questions or comments may be directed to nps@northvilleschools.org.
REGULAR ATTENDANCE IN SCHOOL MATTERS...
And Here's Why!
As we head into a busy time of year, we're beginning to see an uptick in the number of daily absences. While we understand that illnesses cannot be avoided and should not be ignored, we encourage families to plan appointments, vacations, and special occasions outside of the school day. While a few absences here and there may not seem like a lot, they add up quickly! As the infographic below demonstrates, missing an average of two days per month results in a loss of 30 hours of math instruction and 60 hours of literacy instruction per year.
Consistent attendance not only fosters academic achievement, but also encourages social and emotional development. It allows students to form connections with their peers, work collaboratively to solve problems, and feel a sense of safety in their learning environment. These skills are essential for students' growth and confidence.
If you're facing challenges with getting your child(ren) to school on a regular basis, please reach out to me. We are here to offer support and explore possible solutions to ensure that your child(ren) are on a path of educational success.
NOVEMBER IS FAMILY LITERACY MONTH!
Remember literacy includes reading and writing. The activities shared below are from Dr. Jaleesa Johnson.

IB Lunch & Learn, K-5 parents
K-5 Parents/Guardians - Please join us on November 28th, 12:00 at Northville High School for a Lunch & Learn focused on our International Baccalaureate Programme in Northville Schools. IB strives to develop students who will build a better world through intercultural understanding and respect, alongside a healthy appetite for learning and excellence. MYP (Middle Years Programme) is a curriculum framework which supports all students grades 6-10. Both Meads Mill and Hillside middle schools are accredited; therefore, each student is considered an MYP student.
Come learn more about the IB Programme and have your questions answered. Dr Sandra Brock, Director of Instructional Programs & Services and Dr. James Davis, IB Coordinator and teacher at Northville High School will begin the presentation at 12:00pm at Northville High School. A parent panel will also share their experiences with the IB Programme.
Lunch will be provided but seats are limited, registration available and required to attend. You will receive a confirmation email upon completion of this registration form to confirm your seat.
Questions can be emailed to Tanya Pitkin, pitkinta@northvilleschools.org

PTA NEWS YOU CAN USE

The PTA & Amerman staff worked together to complete a full digital directory of all Amerman families (minus those who opted out). This is an exclusive PTA perk - all families are included in the directory regardless of PTA involvement, but ONLY PTA members have access to the directory! Sign up for a membership at AmermanPTA.com.

Habit 2 - Begin with the End in Mind
We will be working on Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind this month.
Begin with the End in Mind means to begin each day, task, or project with a clear vision of your desired direction and destination, and then continue by flexing your proactive muscles to make things happen.
One of the best ways to incorporate Habit 2 into your life is to develop a Personal Mission Statement. It focuses on what you want to be and do. It is your plan for success. Plan ahead and set some goals - begin with the end in mind.
Great Books for Habit #2 - Begin With the End in Mind
- The BFG by Roald Dahl
- When I Grow Up by Sean Covey
- Click Clack Moo Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin
- Little Bunny on the Move by Peter McCarty
- The School Story by Andrew Clements
- Too Many Tamales by Gary Soto
- Plant a Kiss by Amy Krouse
If you would like to recognize your child for using Habit 2: Be Begin with the End in Mind at home, please fill out the following Bobcat Boost and return it to your child's teacher.

SPOTLIGHT ON OUR AMERMAN BOCATS
Writing Our Own Melody
5th graders wrote their own accompanying melody to a song they learned in music. They practiced and then performed it for their classmates (and principal ☺️)
Fable Lessons
3rd Graders in Mrs. Mooney's class read different fables and then had to not only interpret the meaning, but had talk about a time in their own lives that it related to.
Student Credit Union
Community Financial is back with the student run credit union. Our 5th grade leaders helped our Bobcats make deposits to save for the future!
