Dear Parents / Carers,
We have had another lovely week in school this week.
Thank you first of all to all of you who came to our first open classrooms for the school year. It was great to see so many parents in school and I hope it gave you an insight into your child's class and the work they have been doing.
The second thank you goes to everyone that donated to our Harvest Festival collection. Nigel Currey, the founder of the Selby and District foodbank, joined our worship and told the children why the food bank was started and how it works today. He took all the donations back with him and asked me to pass on his thanks.
Thursday was dominated by Literacy as we had a visit from Sherburn Library in the morning to read poems and give out certificates for the children who completed the Summer Reading Challenge. This year there was a fantastic 41 children so congratulations to all of them on a great achievement. We finished the afternoon with an assembly to celebrate National Poetry day and each class performed poems for the rest of the school to enjoy. What a treat!
We ended the week with 'YES!' Day to raise funds for the Friends of Kirk Fenton. The children enjoyed breaking all the rules and it was lovely to see a range of different outfits! Thank you for all your donations and remember the rules will be back in place on Monday.
Have a lovely weekend,
Karen Williams

Message from Head Pupils
This week, we have celebrated both the harvest festival and national poetry day. It was wonderful to see so much food being donated to Selby Food Bank and we enjoyed listening to a member of the foodbank explain how all our donations will be distributed to those in need. The school council led the worship and all spoke very well. Yesterday, we also celebrated national poetry day. Each class prepared and presented a poem in front of the school and we all enjoyed sharing our poems with each other.
Head Pupil Awards went to Max, Y2 and Nancy, YR

Pre-ordering Lunch
There are still a number of people who are regularly not pre-ordering school dinners which is causing issues at lunchtime. If you have problems using the system please contact the office as we don't want children to be upset if they don't get their choice of meal.

Staff Thank You's
If anyone would like to say thank you to or has any positive comments for a member of staff then please complete and submit the form below.
YES Day has been a great success, we hope all the children enjoyed being able to dress up for the day. Everyone looked fantastic this morning and we raised £250 which is a great start to the year.
A couple of reminders/updates from us for this week:
AGM: just under two weeks to go until the AGM, on Tuesday 17th October, in the Y5 classroom after school. We need twice as many attendees as committee members, so we need at least 5 people who aren't already on the committee to come along - unfortunately we can't promise alcohol but we may be able to stretch to some biscuits.
Books & Bakes: we are planning to hold a books and bakes sale in October, and are looking for volunteer bakers. If anyone is channelling their inner Mary Berry or Prue from watching GBBO, or just likes baking, please do let us know if you would be able to donate some bakes for the event. Likewise with books - we have quite a few already but if anyone is having a clear out we'll happily take them off your hands!
