CELEBRATIONS!
Great things are happening at WCS!
Greetings Wildcat Families,
Welcome to another exciting year at WCS! We have had an amazing first few days that truly began on the 31st with over 300 people attending our first PTA sponsored Block Party. I firmly believe that a school should be the connecting point of its community and I believe we are this in Woolwich! It makes me happy to see our students and their families socializing and visiting with each other at the school. I believe this event had a lot to do with our smooth start this week. Students were excited to see their friends and it gave them something to look forward to over the weekend. It also gave our new families a chance to get a feel for the school and get some questions answered before the first day. It is our goal that this will become an annual event at WCS! As we make our way through next week, please make sure you have reviewed our student handbook and signed the confirmation page. The confirmation page will be coming home in printed form early next week. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our office.
Take care,
Mr. Libby
WCS FALL SPORTS!
VOLUNTEERS
Beach trips! Science Olympiad! Museum visits! There will be many fun opportunities for volunteering this year, and the first step to joining in the fun is completing a volunteer application. This annual application allows you to be part of the excitement in the classroom and on field trips. Making sure that this is completed at the start of the year gives you the option to participate in as many activities as you'd like without worrying about if you'll be approved in time. CLICK HERE to access the Volunteer Application!
WCS PICTURE DAY
8th Grade will be participating in the FLOW trip next week, and will have their photos taken on 9/22.
BLOCK PARTY
Thank you to all who came out to party with us last Thursday at the PTA Block Party! We had so much fun connecting with friends and teachers. What a great way to kick off the school year. A special thanks to those who volunteered to help run and coordinate the event, and to our fabulous PTA who made this whole evening possible!
OFFICE REMINDERS
If you need to change your after school plans for the day, please send a "bus note" in with your student. Sometimes a note is not possible- in that case, please try to call the office to announce the change of plans before 2:00 pm. This gives the office adequate time to communicate those changes to students, teachers and bus drivers by the end of the day.
If your student is going to be absent for any reason, please give the school a call to let us know. If we don't hear from you, an automated call will go out to let you know that your student is absent and we haven't heard from you. We must count all of these "no call/no show" days as unexcused in our system, and updating them after the fact is not always easy to do.
If your student will be out of school for 2+ days, they will need a Planned Absence form to be submitted. This form allows us to excuse the absence and it helps teachers plan work for the student, but it also helps coordinate classroom activities for the time that they will be away.
You can access the Planned Absence form and a optional template for bus notes on our website under Parent Resources, or by clicking HERE.
HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS (Welcome Nurse Megan!)
Hello WCS Families!
I am so excited to be the new nurse at Woolwich Central School this year! I have experience working at the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital as well as at a school in Cumberland. I look forward to meeting students and families as we begin the school year together and to working with you to ensure the safety and well-being of all our Wildcats.
As a reminder, our school is a nut-safe/nut-reduced environment. You can find all of the specific guidelines on page 18 of the Woolwich Central School Student Handbook. Most importantly, we ask that you do not send any food containing nuts to school with your student for either lunch or snack. Our goal is to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all students, some of whom have severe, life threatening allergies. We appreciate your support in this!
If your child is prescribed a daily medication that must be administered during school hours OR if your child has emergency medication prescribed for chronic conditions such as asthma, anaphylaxis or seizures, please make arrangements to drop off these important medications. Please note that medication can only be accepted if it is in its original pharmacy labelled box or bottle. Additionally, a provider's order in the form of a signed Medication Authorization Form, Asthma Action Plan, Allergy Anaphylaxis Plan, or Seizure Plan is required. Please reach out to me with any questions.
