Greetings tiger parent community
Parents if you have children that will be entering Kindergarten next school year, please make sure if you have not done so already that you register your child for Kindergarten. Parents please be reminded that all students who arrive to school after 8:05 must be signed in the by a parent. Also afternoon student checkout ends at 2:15. No student will be to checkout after 2:15. Lastly, we are in need of volunteers for the 2022-2023 PTA as our current officers transition out. Below you will find a link to the sign-up form please complete and submit the form. We would love to have all of our parents active members of our WPS PTA, because "We do it better when we do it together". Again thank you for all that you do for WPS.

Grade Level and Department News
Pre-K:
- This week, in Ms. Holliday & Mrs. Sessoms’ classes studied different types of Transportation. Ms. White’s class studied Spring Weather and Wind and finally, Mrs. Cullipher’s class studied Bugs/Insects.
- Don’t forget to send your child a water bottle daily.
- Please send an extra change of warm weather clothes for the cubbies
- Check book bags daily and clean out old papers.
- A purple sheet was sent home about pictures with the Easter Bunny. If you are interested in your child having their picture taken with the Easter Bunny, please send a dollar and the signed sheet back with your child as soon as possible.
- If your child receives a Take Home book on Friday, please make sure to read this with them, and return on Monday. If your child does not bring their book back, they will not receive another until the last one is returned.
Kindergarten:
- Continue to work on sight words and blending words .
- In math we are continuing subtraction and measurement including lighter/heavier, taller/ shorter, longer/ shorter. Our beach trip is scheduled for May 12th.
- Please save the day and we will let you know the cost as soon as we get the gas costs.
- Easter parties and egg hunts will be on April 14th. Individual teachers will send information for your child’s homeroom party.
- Next week’s theme is trees. Letterlander is Walter Walrus. Sight words are: seeing, going, playing, helping Vowel combination is -ng. song/ sing/
First Grade:
- We are taking a field trip to Education Day with the Down East Wood Ducks in Kinston on April 27th. If you have not turned in a permission slip or money to your child’s teacher, please do so immediately so we can purchase the correct number of tickets. It was due April 1st. The price is $17 for students and $11 for parents.
- Some students have been busy doing other activities and forgetting to read take-home books.
- Please make sure to listen to your child read each night and sign the reading log.
- Sight words will be assessed during the week of April 4-8. Please study!
- Help your child identify and describe 2D shapes such as square, rectangle, triangle, circle, oval, trapezoid, hexagon, and rhombus. Also identify and describe 3D shapes such as cone, cube, cylinder, rectangular prism, pyramid, and sphere.
Second Grade:
- Field trip permission slips for the Rocky Mount Imperial Centre were sent home this week. Please make sure that all permission slips and money for the field trip are turned in by May 20, 2022. The cost for students is $12.
- Please continue to read AR books and complete the reading log each night. Students should also be practicing basic addition and subtraction math facts.
- Students should bring a water bottle to school each day. Students are not allowed to drink from the water fountains.
Resource:
- 1st and 2nd grade students who were able to check out library books this week, make sure you are enjoying reading your books. Make sure you know what day you go to the library and be ready to bring them back to library class next week to swap them for a new one! If you have any WPS library books, even from last year, you can still turn them back in. Thanks so much *Mrs. Edwards
Starting April 4 -April 14, students will be taking their I-Ready End of Year Diagnostic Test in the areas of Reading and Math. Parents please encourage your child to take their time and focus to ensure their success on their EOY Diagnostic. It is our schoolwide goal that all of our students meet their growth targets for their final benchmarks in math and reading.
