Who can bring their pets to the Dog Spa?

We are open to Alvin ISD STAFF members.

What is the JBH Dog Spa?

The Paws and Claws Pet Spa is a grooming service offered by the JB Hensler College & Career Academy Veterinary Science Program students. This is a service that is provided by the students of the program. These students are pursuing their Certification as Veterinary Assistants.


The Pet Spa helps this program's students with skills they will need to work in veterinary hospitals. Students work on client and staff communication skills, identifying animal behavior, safe animal handling, and basic grooming procedures. They also work on veterinary office procedures such as entering medical records, creating invoices, and scheduling appointments.


Students are supervised by their instructors Ms. Thompson, Mrs. McCoy, and Mrs. Batista.


Your dog will stay with us for the duration of the school day. (Once you drop them off, they remain until pick-up time starts). While they are here all day they will get let out to potty a minimum of 3 times during the school day.

Happy Hoodie

The pink headband on this dog helps with the loud noise from the blow dryer.

Lick Pads

We have new lick pads that we put yummy things on that dogs love to help distract them while we do things like nail trims.

Undercoat brushed off of a Samoyed.

BEFORE - Ear Plucking

Ear plucking is VERY important on breeds of dogs that grow hair INSIDE their ear canal.


Plucking helps to prevent ear infections.


Some breeds that have hair growing inside their ear canal:

Poodle

ANYTHING mixed with a poodle

Shih Tzu

Yorkie

Bichon Frise

This is all of the hair we removed from the ear canal of ONE ear on this Goldendoodle.

WE NOW HAVE DOGGIE HAIR DYE IN MULTIPLE COLORS!! AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST! NO CHARGE!

Vaccines required for dogs to get an appointment

  • Rabies
  • Distemper
  • Parvo
  • Bordetella

Payment

ALL payments will be taken when you pick your pet up at the end of the day of your pet's appointment. (Credit card ONLY)

Donations

If you would like to donate extra that will be an option on our point of sale system when you use your credit card.

JBH Dog Spa

The JBH Dog Spa is located in the JB Hensler College & Career Academy. We are an educational facility.


Drive to the BACK parking lot of JBH. Follow the signs that say Vet Tech. Park by the dog pen/windows.


Our services are only offered to ALVIN ISD EMPLOYEES.


Please remember that students will be working on your pet and are learning.


DROP-OFF TIME: 6:45 AM - 8:00 AM

PICK-UP TIME: 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM - Please do not come to pick up your dog until you receive a phone call that your dog is ready.


Some dogs do not sit very still for their grooming services and students grooming them are learning and practicing new skills. Please be patient.


IF you need your dog ready at a certain time, please notify a JBH Vet Science Instructor when you drop your dog off or prior to your appointment.

  • Make sure to attach your pet's vaccine records to the form!!
  • Wait for an email stating that your pet has an appointment
  • Show up for drop-off the day of your appointment
