Intermediate Newsletter

Because of all the generous donations we raised from our APEX fundraiser, the PTO was able to gift every Intermediate student with a coin to use at our book vending machine. This year we wanted to give the gift of reading Each class has come together to pick out books during their library time this week. The kids have really enjoyed this opportunity as many of them haven’t had a chance to try out the book vending machine yet. Thank you to all our fundraiser donors and to our wonderful Mrs. Watson for taking extra time out of her day to help us make this happen! Merry Christmas from the PTO!

La Vernia Intermediate's Choir Club gave a great Winter Concert earlier last month! They also recorded a special performance the week before Christmas to share with all of our students.

Congratulations to our classes who received the Golden Platter Award! These classes exhibited excellent cafeteria behavior the last two weeks. They earned special fruit juice slushies to enjoy during lunch time.

Mrs. Morin and Mrs. Lear’s class ended 2023 by testing the water retention on 5 soil types.

Mrs. Schock, Mrs. Rodriguez, & Mrs. Kibbons' classes enjoyed receiving their Intermediate PTO book gift. After reading the novel, Wonder, students enjoyed watching the movie!

The LV band directors have been meeting with our fifth graders to try instruments in music class!

Valentine’s Day is on Wednesday, Feb 14th, this year. In the past, students have received many Valentine’s Day flowers, balloons, and large cookies. Valentine’s Day is a very special day for all of us; however, the many gifts sent to the school causes severe interruptions in our teaching and learning time. In addition, the transportation department will not allow balloons, glass vases, and/or large bouquets of flowers to be taken home on the bus. This becomes a safety issue. So, in order to not interrupt our teaching/learning time and/or create a safety concern on our buses, we are asking you to please refrain from sending Valentine’s Day gifts like these to school. Please celebrate Valentine’s Day at home with your children, as we will allow the classes time to celebrate here with each other in the classrooms. Thank you for your understanding.

La Vernia Intermediate offers several before school and after school clubs. Students have received information during campus announcements regarding signing up for clubs, where to find applications, and reminders to turn in applications. More clubs/UIL information will come out as it becomes available. We appreciate our teachers and staff volunteering their time to enrich our students!

Please don't discard your CarRider Pro car tag! Your family tag will work next year for returning students or incoming third graders with siblings already attending LV Intermediate.

If you lose your initial family tag issued in 2022-2023, you will need to purchase an additional tag for $5 for the 2023-2024 school year.

Incoming third graders with no siblings at the Intermediate and "new to LV" students will receive their first car tag at no charge.

All PTO meetings are held at 8:15. Please join our fabulous group of volunteers who make a HUGE contribution to our campus. We look forward to another amazing year!

Campus Expectations

1. Attendance

1. Please come to school everyday!

2. If you are absent, please be sure to bring in a note the day you return to school.

3. Tardies - If you are tardy, your parent must walk you into the office and sign you in.

2. Discipline

1. Be respectful and polite around the school (discuss what that looks like).

2. Misbehavior will be noted on calendars - could result in dhall, Saturday dhall…

3. The bus is an extension of the classroom. The same rules students follow at school apply to the bus. Misbehavior on the bus can result in a bus referral.

4. The campus restrooms are also an extension of the classroom. Get in, do your business, flush, wash your hands, throw the paper towel in the trash, and exit. Misbehavior in the bathroom can result in a referral and a visit to the office.

3. Dress Code

1. Hair needs to be kept neat and groomed. No unnatural hair color (green, blue, striped, etc.).

2. Half-shirts, crop tops, spaghetti straps, strapless shirts, razor-back shirts are not allowed.

3. Shorts and skirts should not be shorter than mid-thigh.

4. Hats, caps, or ski caps are not allowed to be worn (except with approval for special events).

4. School Clubs

1. Be on the lookout for information about school clubs on campus.

2. Garden club, Scrabble club, Spanish club, Ukulele club, GOOGLE club, art club, UIL, etc…

We also encourage you to join our campus Facebook page (La Vernia Intermediate School and La Vernia Intermediate PTO) and Remind (text @lvinter to 81010) for quick reminders and updates. A bi-monthly campus newsletter will be sent out via email which will include upcoming events and campus highlights. Please make sure your email address is up-to-date in our records. Your child’s homeroom teacher will also provide you with specific information regarding classroom and teacher communication. Parent portal access is a great tool to help you monitor your child’s grades and attendance. Once again, thank you for your partnership as we take on another great school year together!

Assessments have begun for students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the TEKS presented in class.
