PRINCIPAL'S PERSPECTIVE

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Staff Update
We still have a few positions open (i.e., coding, special education, math). Based on the needs of our staff and students, we are now posting for a part time innovation teacher and social worker, as well as a full time PE/Health teacher. I will keep you posted on our progress in filling these positions.
Professional Learning at Its Best
One of the ways we can keep abreast of current educational trends and make sure we are a school community of lifelong learners, is to be a part of professional learning communities. A professional learning community (PLC) is a group of teachers, educators or staff members who meet collaboratively to share ideas that will enhance teaching practices, support the attainment of school goals, and create an environment of on-going learning. PLCs can be a part of a school or school district. They can be organized by subject area, grade level, or the entire staff can participate in them.
PLCs can result in huge benefits for both our staff and students. There are different ways PLCs can help promote an optimal learning environment. One way is by providing staff with opportunities that directly impact teaching and learning. They can also build strong relationships between teachers at the same grade level and across other grade levels. They can help staff keep abreast of cutting edge research tools and technology. PLCs can help teachers be reflective practitioners. And, PLCs can help teachers work on student learning and achievement goals with laser-like focus.
At FAST, our PLCs have been designed to focus on teaching and learning, with a particular focus on Innovation. However, over the last few weeks, we have mostly focused on professional development type activities. Our teachers and staff have worked through technology issues, scheduling and other operational concerns. Now that we are beginning to normalize, we can start focusing more on our PLCs to make sure teachers and staff members are experiencing professional learning at its best!
We’re the FAST Astros! Together, we will achieve great things!
HAPPENINGS
Soccer
The FAST Astros have been playing hard. While they suffered two additional losses in the past week against River Trail and Taylor Road, they were impressive on the field nonetheless. Last night's game against Northwestern was a display of impressive goalkeeping by the Astros that ended in a 2-1 loss with the only goal for the Astros being scored by Mohsin Zulfiqar.
We encourage everyone to come out to the games and cheer on the Astros. The full schedule is posted on the FAST website.
