Title One Updates
NWEA testing wrapped up this week and students worked diligently toward reaching the goals they had set for themselves or with the help of their teachers. MSTEP is up next beginning in mid-April, more to come on that later. Please be reading with your child at home, this is the #1 indicator proven by research to help create a successful reader.. Those in Kindergarten and First grade can always use additional work with the letters and sounds. If you are unsure of the sounds each letter makes, Jack Hartman does a great job of making the letter sounds correctly in a fun and engaging way, follow this link on Youtube Learning Letter Sounds | Version 2 | Alphabet Song for Kids | Phonics for Kids | Jack Hartmann
.
In the next few months, our Title Team will be planning for our next Family Engagement night. The focus for this next event will be literacy. As always, these events are open to ALL students! More to come on that in February.
In March, we will again be celebrating March Is Reading Month, with an African Safari theme. Mrs. Cassady has once again been hard at work getting everything ready for our Read-A-Thon, which was very successful last year. This year we are excited to have an assembly taking place March 1. Our Wildlife Safari Assembly https://www.theanimalguy.org/, will be split into 6 groups offering a more personal experience for all the grade levels! We are very excited about the opportunity to have assemblies in our building again! Information about the specifics of reading month will be coming home from your child’s classroom teacher next month.
Title One Progress Reports will be coming home next week for those who have been in attendance and tested. If your child has been absent, we may need a few extra days to complete their testing, but their reports will be forthcoming as soon as assessments are completed. If your child participates in our Title One program, look for those reports soon.
As always, if you have any questions or need to contact our Title One Program, please feel free to reach out to me anytime at kmathers@breckhuskies.org or via the phone at 989-842-3182 and follow the prompts.
Educationally,

Mrs. Aviña's Spanish classes
At the beginning of the month, students made their own kings crowns, and others got to taste Rosca de Reyes, or Kings Bread. This is a special day in Spain and other Spanish speaking countries where kids get presents from the three wise men. They also indulged in some hot chocolate!

BOND UPDATE
Winter has certainly settled here in mid Michigan and the weather has felt like winter. However, work continues on the elementary addition. The weather has certainly slowed the progress some, but work has been plugging away towards our end goal. At this time, work is on schedule to be completed by the time school starts in August of 2022.
At the MS/HS, work has started on the North hallway classrooms and the HS locker rooms. The goal is to complete work on the North classrooms by spring break and begin on the South hallway during spring break. The center science classrooms and hallway work will take place during the summer. Work includes ceilings, lighting, paint, new whiteboards, cabinetry, and projectors and wiring.
We look forward to seeing each project being completed and the environment that our students and staff will be able to enjoy each and every day. Check back next month to see our latest construction updates.

If your student is a close contact of someone at school who has tested positive for Covid, we recommend wearing a mask for 10 days and testing on the 5th day since contact. If your student develops symptoms, your student may test, but must stay home until symptoms are gone. Rapid tests are available upon written request (E-mail or note) of the parent/guardian and will be administered by administration.
If your student is a close contact of someone at home who has tested positive for Covid, we require the student to test for 5 days after contact in order to stay in school.
If staff/students test positive, they must isolate at home for 5 days. They may return after 5 days if they are symptom free, but they must wear a mask for the next 5 days. If choosing not to wear a mask when they return after day five, they must isolate for the full 10 days.
