School Counselor Update
Highland High School- December 2022
Second Semester Schedules
Schedule changes will take place the first 2 days of the semester. Changes are only for students who have a hole in their schedule, a class they have already taken or a level change where parent and teacher have discussed and approved.
Schedule changes are not guaranteed.
Pre-Registration for 23-24
Counselors will be meeting with students individually to talk about career and college plans and request courses for the 2023-2024 school year. Appointment times will be randomly assigned. If you miss your appointment you need to see your counselor to reschedule. Students will bring home forms that require a parent signature with the due date written on the top. Failure to turn the form in by the due date will force the student's priority number for scheduling to move to the end of their grade level.
Week of Nov. 28th- meetings with Class of 2024
Week of Jan. 9th- meetings with Class of 2025
Week of Jan. 17th- meetings with Class of 2026

Mental Health Minute-Tips For Keeping Your Sanity During The Holidays
GET OUTSIDE AND MOVE.
Exercise takes a backseat when life gets busy, but it’s actually the best thing for relieving stress. It doesn’t have to be much, any kind of activity will help. Bundle up and go for a walk or hike. Even better, do it with your family. Taking time for each other, fresh air, and exercise……...it’s a winning combination.
2. FORGET MULTI-TASKING.
We’re busy people with a LONG to-do list, but multi-tasking can actually create anxiety over your jam packed schedule. Instead, focus on one thing at a time to help stay in the present.
3. TAKE A MOMENT FOR YOURSELF.
It’s not being selfish, it’s self preservation! Take a walk, meditate, or just sit in a quiet room. Carve out time just for you, so you’re better able to provide for others.
4. FOCUS ON THE MEANING.
In the end, the holiday season is about celebrating with those we love, and saying thanks for what we have. But how can you foster gratitude during those teen years? “It’s easy to lose sight during the holidays, especially with all the running around, the planning, and the getting of everything,” One of the best ways to teach gratitude is to model gratitude.
