HABITAT AND FOOD CHAIN
Where They Live
The Hawaiian Monk Seal lives on small uninhabited islands and on the shores of the northwestern Hawaiian Islands. Photocredit: Photopin
Terrain
Most of the day, the seals bask in the sun, but they always stay close to damp sand that is near the waters, to avoid overheating. Luckily, many of the islands have been designed as reserves for the monk seals. Photocredit: Photopin
Prey
The monk seal's diet mainly consists of squid, octopuses, eels, crustaceans, fish, and spiny lobsters. Because monk seals are often surrounded by lots of coral reefs, they often swim and dive for food. Photocredit: Photopin
Adaptation
The monk seal spends most of its time in the sea. The monk seals use their hind-flippers and fore-flippers to steer thorough the waters to get their food. They are surrounded by teeming coral reefs. These reefs are god for seals to swim and dive for their prey.
