October 12, 2022 Jarrell ISD Board of Trustees Meeting
Cougar Champions:

Jarrell High School recognized student Luisa Suarez and staff member Coach John Jarrett.
Communications and Informational Items
Superintendent Dr. Hicks presented student outcomes for advanced placement courses.
Athletic Director Marty Murr presented his monthly athletic updates. The presentation is below.
Monthly Bond 2021 Update presented by Sledge Engineering.
Action Items
In addition to approving the Consent Agenda, the Board took the following actions:
- Accepted the resignation of Place 1 Trustee Troy Clawson effective October 5, 2022. The board has 180 days to appoint a replacement.
- Approved a meeting to canvass the Board of Trustees Election, a standard procedure required by Williamson County Elections Office. The dates to canvas the election are November 11 through November 22.
- Approved an update to Policy BED (LOCAL) to ensure decorum during school board meetings. The presentation is below.
- Approved the out of state travel for JHS senior Sydni Garza who is representing Jarrell ISD at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis October 23 - 30th.
- Tabled the discussion to approve the 2022-2023 District Improvement Plan (DIP) and Campus Improvement Plans (CIP) until next month.
- Approved the use of the 2017 Bond funds to support construction cost for the 2021 Bond Jarrell High School expansion project. The presentation is below.
- Named Maria Alvarado the new Director of Transportation.

Board Presentations
Principal Appreciation Month
October is Principal Appreciation Month. We celebrated our principals with a special dinner and certificates of appreciation at our board meeting.
Congratulations to the Jarrell High School Band and Color Guard
The Jarrell High School Band and Color Guard competed at the Austin US Bands Regional contest at Jack C. Hays HS. The band and guard placed first in their division and won best percussion and color guard in their division. The band and guard advanced to finals, where they competed with bands of all classifications. The band and guard placed 6th overall, edging out Fredericksburg (a consistent 4A UIL state marching contest qualifier.)
Homecoming Information
The Homecoming parade is on Wednesday, October 19th at 6:30 PM. The floats will leave from JMS and end at JHS where we will light the JC and let our Cougar spirit roar.
The Homecoming game is on Friday, October 21st at 7:30 PM at Cougar Stadium.
The Homecoming dance is on Saturday, October 22 from 7 - 10 PM at JHS. It's $15.00 a person.

Pre-Bond Committee
On Thursday, October 13th, we held our first Pre-Bond Committee meeting. There are more than 40. More than half are parents, business owners, and community members. Below is the presentation from the first meeting. The committee will meet three more times to develop a potential bond package.
Strategic Planning Committee
We are in phase 2 of our strategic planning process. The purpose of the committee is to
review/revise the mission, develop objectives and strategies
Adult ESL Classes
We are partnering with the Jarrell Community Library to offer adult ESL courses. Please share the news with your students and their families. More information is below.
The Little Mermaid
Our theatre students are performing The Little Mermaid in December. However, we still need elementary and middle school students to join the cast. The deadline to sign up is on October 21st.
