6th Grade and New Student Orientation
We are excited to welcome our 6th graders and New Students to Orientation on Tuesday, August 17. We are also inviting any virtual or remote student from last year who needs an orientation before the first full day of school.
Students do not need backpacks or bags on this day. This day is dedicated to familiarizing students with ABMS.
Schedule
· 7:15-7:40 – Buses and Car Lane Drop-Off
· 7:40 – All students meet in the ABMS Commons for a Welcome
· 7:45 – 6th grade students will be escorted to their first period class by their teacher
· 7:45 – 7th and 8th grade student attending will meet with counselors to be guided to their orientation location.
· All students will attend each of their 9 classes to meet the teacher and see the classroom spaces.
· 9:40 – 6th, 7th and 8th grade students will report back to the Commons for release to bus and car lanes.
Lockers
Now that we know more specifics about mitigation expectations for the year, we will be offering lockers to any student who wishes to have one within the first 5-10 days of school. We are happy to make special arrangements for students who need to have a locker on the first day of school. Please contact our counseling office if your student needs a locker on the first day.
First Full Day of School for All Students
- Wednesday, August 18 is our first full day of school!
- Students may enter the building beginning at 7:15 a.m.
- Schedules should be live on StudentVue after 1:00 on Tuesday, August 17.
- Paper schedules will be available on August 18 for students who want them.
- Our school day ends at 2:50 p.m.
- During pick-up and drop-off, cars should pull all the way to the marked car lane (by the football field) in order to move traffic through our loop quickly. Please follow the signs and supervisors who are working the car lane.
- Please be patient and courteous in the car lane.
School Lunch
- Each grade level eats as a group.
- Students who may be concerned about lunchroom procedures or food choices may want to bring their lunch from home until they acclimate themselves to the lunchroom procedures. Hot lunch is always available to all of our students.
- Every student will have plenty of time to eat lunch. Please be patient as we model and teach lunchroom procedures.
Fall Sports
Please take a minute to compete this Google Form so that we can gauge your student’s interest in our fall sports. We will be full KSHSAA activities this year. Once again, any student who wants to participate muse complete the required district forms.
Blue Valley Middle School Participation Packet
There will be a meet the coach night for all fall sports (Volleyball, Football, Cross Country and Cheer) Monday August 23th beginning at 4:30 in the Aubry Bend Commons. We will be sharing some general information and also specific practice information for each individual fall sport.

Football

My name is Taylor Stewart. I am eager to begin my 5th season as head football coach at ABMS. I would like to provide information to the families who have a student athlete interested in playing football this fall.
Attached below is the ABMS Football Calendar 2021 .
****All athletes must have their District Participation Packet turned into the office before they will be able to participate. ****
Our first practice will be August 16th 3:45pm-5pm. We are meeting in the ABMS gym.
Athletes will need to bring:
-Wear athletic clothing (shorts and T shirt)
-Football Cleats & Tennis Shoes
-Mouth piece (not clear)
-Personal water bottle
We will begin in the ABMS Gym with equipment check out.
Athletes will receive:
-helmet
-shoulder pads
-Hip, tail, thigh, knee pads
-belt
-Practice jersey and pants

Cross Country

Open to 7th and 8th grade students.
Cross Country Parents/Guardians: Our first day of practice has moved up to Tuesday, August 17th. This is an optional practice. If your athlete is able to join us, they need to have their participation packet turned in and they should bring their sneakers, as well as a water bottle. We will meet in the 8th-grade pod outside of Room 110.
Cheerleading

Monday August 23rd 3:00 - 4:00. Athletes should report to room 309. Please note athletes and parents are invited to the Meet the Coach Meeting on August 23rd at 4:30.
The Teacher Appreciation Committee welcomed our teachers back to school on Thursday, August 12th with smoothies from smoothie king, donuts, and goodies bags chock full of protein bars, trail mix, candies and a special ABMS kindness water bottle sticker. Families donated the items for the goodie bags.
Our first PTO meeting of the 2021-2022 school year will be Friday, August 27th at 9:00am via zoom. To join PTO go to your Parent Vue account and sign up! We have had an AWESOME week welcoming back our entire staff!!! The energy in the building is electric as our teachers work together to plan and prepare for 783 amazing kids to start school next week!
On behalf of our entire team, I would like to thank the many PTO volunteers who donated items, created gift bags, put together decorations, and set up the commons for a welcome back breakfast for our team. We continue to be in awe over the wonderful kindness and support of our parent community. Thank you! We feel loved and supported!
