HAUNTED HOUSE CHARACTERS
The students are VERY excited about their big, spooky night coming up.
They also received their script and can start practicing their lines. There might be some edits made by Monday. If so, they will receive a new script to work on.
There are also pictures of their character for you to pull costume inspiration from.
If you are unable to find, buy, or borrow a costume please do let us know ahead of time and we will make accommodations.

Pumpkin Walk - 5th Grade Bake Sale
Hello 5th Grade Parents!
Believe it our not, it's time to sign up for our FINAL bake sale of the year! The bake sale takes place during the Pumpkin Walk from 6-9pm on Friday October 18, 2019. This bake sale's funds will go in the 5th grade account to be used for various things like science camp bus transportation and towards the gift the 5th Graders give to the school. We need your help (& your 5th grader's help) with running our bake sale.
Please take some time to review our volunteer signups and sign up to help! We are asking every family to provide 1-2 dozen baked goods for the event. Items should be separated into individual portions, wrapped and ready to sell. Large items (cupcakes, brownies, etc) will sell for $1 each. If you bake smaller items, wrap several together in one bag to make $1 portions.
The Sign Up Sheet can be found below.
Parent and student volunteers are needed to run the bake sale during 30 minute shifts. Parents are asked to help with the cashier position to make sure the money gets handled properly, and to support the 5th grade student sales team. Consider signing up your child during your shift!
*If you plan to help in the Haunted House while your child's classroom is having their shift, please be aware of the scheduling and do not schedule a Haunted House shift and a bake sale shift at the same time. We have a separate Haunted House Sign Up Genius to keep things organized. *
We will collect baked goods in the carpool line on Friday October 18th between 8-8:30am during drop off and also from 2:45-3:30pm during pick up.
Please do not send baked goods with nuts.
If you have questions, please email me. Thank you for your support!
Thanks!
Ana Maria Preller

Math - Mrs. Lawson
In Math, we have continued to work our way through moving from whole numbers to multiplication with decimals, again using place value as a guide to reason and make estimations about products.
Students have been working extremely hard on Multi-Digit Whole Number and Decimal Fraction Operations. We have been practicing multiple different strategies with decimals including mental strategies, standard algorithms, partial quotients and word problems.
Remember you can check in on whats going on in your students math class but having them show you the daily Hyperdoc posted on Google Classroom. It shows the homework assignment but also has videos to help your student.
Science - Mrs. Jones
Wrapping up Stars and Moon Phases
These past couple weeks in science, we have started learning more about the states of matter. We had an exciting lab where students combined water in corn starch to make a Non-Newtonian fluid. They had a blast and clearly thought this was the best lab yet! We’ve delved farther into the different states of matter and have even acted out different molecules of solids, liquids, and gases.
Additionally, in Digital Citizenship, we’ve started our coding that students have been eagerly anticipating since the beginning of school. Using our book, The Sign of the Beaver, students are developing dialogue in characterization of the main character in the story. They’re adding backgrounds, voiceovers, and speech bubbles to show Matt's character.
Writing - Mr. Havens
Because of the unexpected short week, I have allowed the students to make any last minute changes to their story this weekend. They have until Monday to make any final edit and revisions before I start grading their papers. Have them refer to my class website and their checklist to make sure that they have everything that they need.
On Monday, we will start a brand new Seed Story that we will focus on for the next two weeks before we wrap up our Personal Narrative writing unit.
