The Appleton Echo
Autumn Term 1, Week 8
A Word from Mr Broom
It's the end of an exhilarating 8 weeks of learning and I think I speak for everyone when I say we are all most definitely ready for a well-earned rest. It's been a blast and I can't thank you enough for supporting us all through this first half term. I was looking back on the past seven newsletters and we've achieved so much in such a short period of time.
The disco last night was a huge success and thank you to everyone who helped to make the event a memorable one. The children had a wonderful time and the staff didn't hold back either!
I'm heading to Majorca for a few days in the sun with Kate and the boys. I hope you all get chance to have a rest too and enjoy whatever you have planned.
Take care and we'll see you on the 6th November (7 Mondays to Christmas Day!).
Help us with Booking Wrap-Around Care
Mrs Stephen will be pulling together the wrap-around care numbers/finance over the next few days. You can help her by filling in the wrap-around care forms as soon as possible. You'll find these towards the bottom of this newsletter. Thank you in advance.
Thank you Mrs Kirkpatrick & Mr Tessier
Today we say a farewell to two of our teaching colleagues, Mrs Kirkpatrick & Mr Tessier.
Mrs Kirkpatrick is commencing her maternity period and has been instrumental in establishing the high quality teaching consistency, particularly around reading and writing over the past few terms. On behalf of the whole community, please join me in wishing her well.
Mr Tessier stepped in for the first period of Mrs Cato's maternity in the second half of summer term. Unfortunately, his time with us has come to a premature end but we wish him well for the future.
Welcome Mr Crump
Due to the changes mentioned above, we welcome Mr Crump as our new Year 3/4 class teacher, taking over from Mrs Kirkpatrick after the break. Mr Crump is really looking forward to joining us after a short stint with my other school, Sherburn Hungate. He enjoys computing and in his spare time, is a professional DJ!
It looks like DJ Broom has some competition!
Usborne Books - Bookshop Open Thursday 9th November
Usborne Books will be opening their bookshop for all parents on Thursday 9th November from 3:15pm until 6pm. The bookshop will run in the room adjacent to the school hall and is an ideal opportunity to get books at great prices for Christmas. Please enter the main entrance and proceed through the school hall. It's parent's evening that night too.
A wonderful Harvest Festival
A huge thank you to everyone who came to our Harvest Festival today in church, and thank you to Reverend Lucy for hosting us as usual. The child performed amazingly well and I was incredibly proud.
Clubs for Autumn Term 2 - Monday Afternoons (3:15pm-4pm)
We have a wonderful range of extra-curricular clubs on offer for next half term in the lead up to Christmas. I'm also delighted to offer clubs to our Reception children for the first time too!
Thank you to the teaching team and also Polly Bowman, who has offered to run a Christmas Crafts Club.

OfSTED Parent View
We start the new academic year expecting an Ofsted Inspection at some point in the year. We are certainly well overdue!
You can really help us by completing the Ofsted Parent View online survey. It's a short series of questions that should take you no longer than 10 minutes. Of course, when we do get the call, you'll get another opportunity to share your views.

A polite reminder that we have children in school who have severe nut allergies. Please ensure that you do not bring nuts on to the school site or include them in packed lunches.
Thank you for your support with this.
Staff Shout Outs
I've had a few messages from parents/carers asking about how they can send a staff shoutout for a staff team. It's great that you think about them and really does help to raise morale.
