Weekly Update 1/27/2023
PRINCIPAL'S NOTE
“We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives.” ~ John F. Kennedy
Last Friday marked our inaugural Winter Ball here at HMS. Our PTO planned and sponsored this event and it was a huge success. Approximately 600 students attended and had a great time dancing, getting pictures taken at the picture booth, and sharing a meal together. Please take a moment to thank all of our parent volunteers, as well as, the PTO planning committee.
HMS WEEKLY
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
The Counselors at HMS are looking to bring in the Cancer Support Network (formerly Gilda's Club) to offer a support group for students who have a family member or close friend living with cancer or a family member or close friend who had cancer in the past.
If you are interested in having your child participate in our group please respond to this email. The group will meet once a month for 45 minutes on Wednesdays at 1:00 PM (subject to change). It should not be too disruptive to the student's education. The group is run by the outside provider and all clearances have been obtained. We will need signed permission from the parent or guardian.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to child's assigned Guidance Counselor.
HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY
This Friday ,January 27, is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The HMS ELA department is hosting Mr. Daniel Goldsmith, Holocaust survivor. We have hosted Mr. Goldsmith in the past and feel very fortunate to be able to have him again this year. His story, like so many others, is nothing short of remarkable. All 8th grade classes will be viewing this presentation.
CHINESE NEW YEAR
The Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year, is China's most important festival. This year the Lunar New Year falls on Sunday, January 22, 2023, beginning a year of the rabbit. Celebrations traditionally last up to 16 days, starting from New Year's Eve to the Lantern Festival. In 2023, the celebrations culminate on February 5, 2023.
