November Update!!
November Happenings
The College application season is steadily moving along. The School Counseling Department continues to work with seniors finalizing their schools, and getting their applications ready to go. If you or your child is feeling behind in this process, now would be a great time to call and make an appointment with their School Counselor. We strongly recommend that seniors wrap up the application process by December 16th. This is the last day to submit transcript requests before the holiday break. Please note: We are not here during the holiday break, so it is very important to get your requests in promptly. One quarter of the school year is completed and the report cards are in the mail. Please remember that accessing your child’s live grade book is possible in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Connecting with each teacher and the School Counselor can be very instrumental in obtaining information about your child’s courses or their grades in those courses. Students are encouraged to monitor their courses, be aware of upcoming assessments, and pay attention to due dates. Students are also encouraged to meet with their teachers and/or school counselor to discuss any academic concerns.

Quinnipiac University Field Trip!!
On Tuesday October 25, 2016 Wolcott High School Counseling department took 40 students on a field trip to tour Quinnipiac University’s campus. The school counseling department started field trips during the 2015-2016 school year to offer students exposure to a college campus. Touring college campuses is a benefit to all students, in that it allows them to see what they would want in their own college experience. Often times a visit to a campus allows students to decide on a preference for campus size, location, and a major, through seeing what the school has to offer. It is a good opportunity for students to see the facilities that a college program has to offer. It is never too soon to start touring college campuses; in fact it is often beneficial to start the process earlier during the student’s freshman or sophomore year. At Quinnipiac University students participated in a 40 minute informational session, an hour long campus tour, and were able to dine in the school’s dining hall. Students had positive feedback about the field trip and said it was helpful to see the campus. The School Counseling department will be looking to host another college field trip in the spring, please stay tuned for more information.
