TOHS Green Sheet

Good Morning Lancer Families,

As mentioned in last week's Green Sheet, this week the TOHS parent community will be voting for three new parent representatives for a two-year term on the TOHS Site Council. Our School Site Council (SSC) is a group made up of TOHS faculty and staff, parents and students who have the responsibility of helping school administrators set goals, establish budgets and oversee school progress throughout the school year. It's primary responsibility is the creation of the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).

This year, we have several individuals who have indicated that they wish to be on this year's ballot. Below, you will find a link to a e-ballot. When you click the link, you will be directed to our ballot where you will be able to read a short bio for each candidate. After reading the bios, please vote for no more than THREE candidates (you may vote for less than three should you desire). Each parent may vote once. The three candidates who have highest number of votes will be elected. Those that are not in the top three will be be given the option of serving as an alternate member. Alternates participate in the SSC discussions, but may not vote.

The ballot will close at 12pm on Friday, August 12th. Winners will be announced in the Green Sheet on August 14th.

Please remember that our Site Council meetings are public meetings and are open to anyone who would like to attend. We will post the meeting date, time, location and agenda on the school's website the Friday prior to each meeting. If you do plan to attend a meeting, public comments (like our Board meetings) are scheduled at the beginning of each meeting.

Venus was once habitable until a mysterious event occurred. Venus likely sustained stable temperatures and hosted liquid water for billions of years until something triggered the release of carbon dioxide from rocks on the planet about 700 million years ago.

We've been getting a lot of emails from families requesting a general supplies list. With 80+ teachers on campus, it's difficult to provide one list as they all have unique classroom routines. Our teachers will cover what they need students to have on the first day of school (some teachers will reach out via email prior to the first day). If you can't wait until then, focus on the basics...spiral notebooks, pencils, pens, and a backpack.

Last Monday, all CVUSD families received an email from our District Office asking you to complete your annual updates online. Please, please, please be sure to take the time to complete the required updates by Friday, August 12th. Among the other information taht needs to be verified, it is critical that that contact information (address, email, phone numbers) are accurate in Q!! Thanks for jumping on this. If you need paper copies, please contact the school's main office.

Breakfast and lunch meal service will be available at all schools.

FREE MEALS FOR ALL STUDENTS
School meals for the 2022-2023 school year will be available to all students at no charge. Although all students will receive free meals through the duration of this school year, we request for all families to complete this Online Free / Reduced Meal Eligibility for School Year 2022-2023 form, as this form affects a variety of areas unrelated to school meals, including school funding, college application fees, SAT fees, bus passes and more. Even if your child does not plan to eat school lunches, it is important to fill out this form to help ensure our schools and families receive the available resources.

You can complete the meal application online starting July 1, 2022. Please click here to complete the Online Free / Reduced Meal Eligibility for School Year 2022-2023 form application online. Paper applications will be available in the school's main office.

The Our annual Booster Reauthorization meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 30th at 6pm in the MPR. All Booster Club Presidents and Treasurers (Athletics and Activities) MUST attend this meeting.

Calling all new parents! Do you have a freshman, or a student new to our school this year? Join us for a Meet and Greet with the School's Leadership Team! On August 16th at 8am, we will gather between C and D buildings (head to the Quad behind the Main Office and you will see us). If you are a parent of a freshman, drop them off at Lancer Launch and join us for coffee and bagels. We hope to see you there!

Parents of 9th graders - please sign your student up for Lancer Launch, scheduled on Tuesday, August 16th from 8am to approximately 12:15. There's a link on the school website (www.conejousd.org/tohs) to the registration page. It's a great way to start off their high school career!

Thousand Oaks High School also has a representative in each CVUSD's Parent Advisory Councils: District Advisory Council (DAC), Special Education District Advisory Council (SEDAC), District English Learners Advisory Council (DELAC), Gifted and Talented District Advisory Council (GATEDAC), Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning and Others Advisory Council (LGBTQ+ AC), and the African American District Advisory Council (AADAC). Our PTSA serves a critical role in the success of TOHS. 100% of the funds that are raised through membership drives and other fundraising events are used to support TOHS teachers and students.

PTA connects families, schools and communities by providing programs and services at your child’s school. PTA is the nation’s largest volunteer-led child-advocacy association working to drive improvements in the education, health and well-being of all children and families. When you are a member of PTA, you are an advocate for your child and for all children.

In addition to supporting school initiatives throughout the year, our PTSA also provides mini-grants to teachers and they offer scholarships to several seniors each year. Your membership is needed for their success!

Parents in Booster groups - please help us help you!! If you schedule a restaurant night, PLEASE notify Jody Benon in our activities office (jbenon@conejousd.org) before advertising it! We want to avoid groups booking competing fundraisers on the same night.

Looking for a way to support the school while also increasing advertising for your business or organization? Our ASB Officers are selling banner space on the tennis court fences that run along Moorpark Rd. and Flores Rd. Call Lisa Solis in the TOHS Student Store for more details if you are interested. 100% of the funds are directed into student programs. We still have a few spots remaining along Avenida de las Flores.

Thanks to those individuals who have ordered a banner. Space is limited and going fast - so act now!

CVUSD will soon be sending information out on all health and safety protocols for the year. Be on the look out.

TOHS will no longer allow food service delivery companies such as Door Dash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub to deliver food to school for students to pick up. If a student forgets their lunch, they are encouraged to take advantage of the free meal service in the cafeteria.

Parents are also encouraged to have their students use the free meal service from the cafeteria instead of dropping off food at the front office. For any items dropped off by parents, students will not be allowed to leave class to retrieve them. Students can pick up those items dropped off either at Nutrition or Lunch.

This year, our academic support program will be taking on a new shape. We will be offering academic support in the morning before 8:30 as well as after school. Stay tuned for more information!

Need to print an essay or other similar piece of school work for a class and don't have a printer? Fear not! TOHS offers all Lancers access to the Free Lancer Printing Center. This is how it works: email your paper to TOHLancerLibrary@learn.conejo.net (notice that there is no S in TOH). Come to the circulation desk in the Lancer Library and once our library staff verifies that the document is school work, they print it, for free! You can access the Lancer Printing Center before school (beginning at 7:30), at break, at lunch, after school (until 4pm) and during class as long as long you have a pass from your teacher.

Our first home varsity football game this year will take place the Friday before school starts! Come on out on August 19th at 7pm and join us as we open our 2022 football campaign against Segerstrom HS.

Also, it seems every student group on campus has a Twitter and Instagram account that will allow you to follow individual groups should you wish to do so. Our school has a great general twitter feed that tweets lots info about the school (@ThousandOaksHS) and I have my own account where I'll tweet my own thoughts and observations about the school (@ewbergmann).
